BRAZTOA AT WTM LATIN AMERICA

2014 is a special year for Braztoa as it celebrates 25 years as an association

2014 is a special period for Braztoa. The association is celebrating 25 years in a solid position as one of the most important Brazilian tourism organizations, at the very moment in which the World Cup and the elections in Brazil are in the headlines and promise to generate an unprecedented level of activity and business for the travel operators. To commemorate this special date, the association has launched a new logo and is announcing its new site that is more modern and has more practical and revamped tools, and which will be launched in April. Braztoa’s path goes hand in hand with the

history of the Brazilian tourism market. In 1989, when a group of operators who were specialized in international travel decided to set up this organization, the Brazilian tourism market was still very small and focused just on the two major holiday periods (January and July). The operators knew each other but were unable to undertake joint actions and publicize the products sufficiently early to sell them to the travel agents. In order to meet this demand, Braztoa held its first ECB - Business Meeting, in 1990.

Braztoa Business Meeting Purely by chance, the 1st Braztoa Business Meeting took place just one day after the announcement of the Collor Plan, but despite the economic

difficulties, the alliance by the market ensured an increase in the volume of business of the operators. In September 1994, Braztoa allied itself with COBRAT (Brazilian Tourism Operators Chamber), whose members were more focused on domestic tourism activities. The Real Plan, which brought stability to Brazil’s exchange rate, made the merger possible, in so far as a large number of the operators began to operate both domestic as well as international trips. Over the last two decades, the market has

undergone radical changes. The power of the internet and the growth of Brazil’s middle class has increased the number of consumers of tourism services and has forced the operators to invest large sums of money in technology and in the training of employees in order to be able to offer the best products for each type of consumer. “The operators and travel agencies could post

a great deal of growth over the next few years, due to the fact the fact that travelling is becoming increasingly affordable. Brazil has millions of potential consumers who need a complete advisory service that ensures a customized travel experience, with security and all the support that only a qualified professional can offer”, explains Braztoa’s chairman, Marco Ferraz. The organization plays a crucial role in the

development of its associates’ business activities. In addition to promoting business meetings, it undertakes development, promotion and commercialization support actions that add value to its associates’ business activities. Its main projects include the Business Meetings, Braztoa’s Sustainability Program and Tourism Week, along with others.
