theibcdaily Saturday 08.09.2012 Global launch of Carmel and Meron Siano By Heather McLean

IBC has set the stage for Siano, supplier of mobile broadcast DTV solutions, to launch two innovative DVB-T TV products this year, Carmel and Meron.

Carmel is an intuitive, user friendly Apple accessory that connects directly to iPads and iPhones with a free, easy to download SianoTV App from

the Apple App Store. Carmel is absolutely free and no 3G fees are required, but unlike streaming 3G or Wi-Fi, Carmel is true broadcast TV. Meron is a Wi-Fi accessory that delivers broadcast TV to mobile devices with quality mobile content over Android

or iOS smartphones and tablets. Users can also enjoy the Meron experience and watch live TV free of charge, with no payment required for cellular data or TV provider subscriptions.

Both Carmel and Meron are said to be gaining popularity

throughout Europe and Latin America, and Siano says it now intends to attack the European market with these products. 3.A19t

Upmix and downmix

DSpecialists/ Nugen Audio

By David Davies

A collaboration to develop a software plug-in offering

upmixing/downmixing between stereo and 5.1 surround has been announced. The plug-in will employ patented ISOSTEM technology, said to be the only upmix engine that is fully compatible with stereo. Nugen Audio will develop three versions of the plug-in, the first of which will make it possible to produce a stereo mix in the studio, with the software automating the conversion to 5.1. An upmix plug-in will provide pure upmix with flexible settings; the crossmix plug-in will deliver upmix as well as downmix; and a third version will provide extended functionality. Jon Schorah, creative

director of Nugen Audio, commented: “These plug-ins will give audio professionals the tools to create a mix that works perfectly in both stereo and 5.1 at the set-top box, without any of the phase artefacts that often appear when 5.1 is collapsed down to stereo. And by automating the creation of a great 5.1 mix out of the components of a standard stereo mix, they will save a lot of studio time, too.” 8.D29
