Terra vision Latin American internet company Terra chose Ericsson to supply a video processing solution and support services for the portal’s broadcast of the 2012 Olympic Games. Terra provided live HD content accessible through multiple screens, including PCs, interactive TVs and mobile phones. Terra also made agreements with TV manufacturers so that 3D content was available for TVs connected to the internet. Russian support Having experienced significant success in the Russian market, mobile satellite technology company C-COM Satellite Systems has added Russian language support to its iNetVu mobile antenna systems. The iNetVu 7000 series controllers are integrated with a Windows- based software tool that provides a selectable language option, allowing the user to configure and operate the iNetVu system in the user’s native language. The Russian language option is available free of charge to all C-COM customers and is user-selectable at the time of configuration or operation. An end user can switch from Russian to English (and vice- versa) dynamically while the software is in operation. 4.C71
Catapult launched Version 4.1 of XDT’s Catapult Server includes new syncing options, custom transfer filters and notifications, and file transfer orchestration between Catapult Servers from remote clients. Changes are afoot. Key players in the satellite industry are calling for a satellite transmission standard, specifically for professional satellite contribution links, which would extend the existing DVB- S2 standard.
In some ways DVB has been a victim of its own success. Its acceptance across the satellite industry has been unreserved. Partly due to this, some specific applications such as video contribution and high speed IP services now require extensions to ensure even more efficient transmission. Ultimately, for satellite businesses, the creation and adoption of these extensions will translate to higher efficiency, higher speed and higher service robustness to increase business.
DVB has already brought many of the leading minds in satellite communications together from all over the world. These experts are analysing the latest technological advances to provide a solution based on the well-established DVB-S2 specification. Up to now this standard has been the solution for distribution applications like Direct to Home and professionally used satellite links.
