Q&A

Bob Shallow, SVP of sales and marketing,

Rovi Corporation

Has IBC come at a good time for the electronic media industry? Why? We are at the crux of some significant steps forward for the industry and for Europe. The growth of the hybrid initiative, Ultra Violet, and the proliferation of connected devices – smart TV, phones, PCs and tablets – is leading the industry toward a greater level of advance entertainment services. IBC2012 is the discussion table for what it will take to launch innovative services that will appeal to consumers and succeed in the market.

What do you think are the key developments in, or threats to, your market sector at the current time? With Smart TVs and mobile devices, end customers will get more power to decide, where, when and what media to consume. It is very important for content providers, CE manufacturers and service providers to respond by creating intelligent offerings that enable new

entertainment experiences. Ensuring interoperability and immersive experiences across multiple platforms for users are the key challenges here.

Why should delegates visit your stand at IBC?

For the last 20 years, Rovi has been driving technology innovation for its customers in the entertainment world. Rovi enables service providers to develop and quickly bring to market brilliant and engaging applications powered by Rovi in-depth entertainment data and cloud services. At IBC Rovi is discussing and showcasing technologies for high-quality video delivery and display; hybrid discovery solutions to launch next generation experiences; cloud-based services used to create multi-device environments; and personalised and interactive applications to promote consumer enjoyment. 5.A31

SIS Live integrated the car in less than two weeks and added uPod, an automated, compact, SNG uplink system mounted on to the roof. JVC provided two Pro 24-inch LCD monitors and two JVC GY-HM750E cameras. The complete production system fits in the trunk of the Mini, and could be used from the back of the car or as a portable kit.

The Mini LiveMan has toured more than 10 countries in Europe and is currently being demoed at IBC. 7.K11
