Betz-tools By David Fox

The new Piano Remote Head from Betz-tools is claimed to be ‘the first remote head with high precision and noiseless torque drive motors,’ which means it produces no backlash, needs

no service, and offers quick centre of gravity camera adjustment, and smooth start and stop even at very low speeds and with long lenses. The power and data lines, as well as the HD-SDI signal, feed through both axes via slip rings. Canon, Fujinon and Angénieux lenses are easily controlled via

their serial or analogue protocol. Lenses without a motor are controlled via an external CAN motor (also just launched by the company). There are two versions: the 12kg Piano and the taller 15kg Piano XL, with a maximum payload of 25kg, allowing 360° unlimited rotation and pan/tilt, with CAN-Bus, HD-

SDI, Telemetry and RS 232 inputs and outputs. A single control line connects the control desk with the Piano remote head up to a distance of 500m. The Remote Control Desk is claimed to be the first Camera- Remote-Head control unit that allows easy configuration to meet the individual needs of operators.

Security delivers

revenue Verimatrix By Ian McMurray

Among the demonstrations on the Verimatrix stand is one showing Cardless DVB and Hybrid Security – a

harmonised security platform for broadcast and hybrid networks, with flexible client implementations for broadcast STBs, connected STBs and smart TV CI+ CAM modules. It is being demonstrated in conjunction with middleware and STB ecosystem partners. Also on show is what the company claims is the world’s first protected MPEG- DASH standard streaming delivery system. Verimatrix is highlighting Enhanced HLS Security for Multi-Screen Devices – secure live and on-demand adaptive streaming delivery using a single stream source to enable the broadest range of client devices.

Enhancements to the company’s MultiRights PlayReady are also being showcased, featuring PlayReady 2 integration in the VCAS architecture supporting Smooth Streaming clients on PC, Nokia Lumia Windows phones and Xbox. 4.B54
