A newly-introduced shotgun microphone, the MKE 600 from Sennheiser, is designed to provide video journalists with a product that can overcome video sound challenges.
MKE 600 can be powered by a standard AA battery. A switch is provided to deactivate the battery power when the camera is not in use, thereby preventing the battery from being discharged.
In addition, an LED on the The mic’s directional capabilities
allow it to pick up sound from the camera direction while avoiding unwanted background noise. The switchable low-cut filter helps to minimise handling and wind noise.
A shock-mount with an integral flashmount adapter is included to enable the MKE 600 to be fixed to a video camera. Like any shotgun, it can also be used on a microphone boom. For cameras that do not provide phantom power, the
battery switch indicates when the battery voltage is low, at which point the video journalist still has a reserve of around eight hours.
The MKE 600 comes with a foam windshield that reduces wind noise by around 25dB; the shock-mount and a carrying case are also included. For outside broadcasting, a ‘blimp’ basket windshield (MZH 600) is available as an optional accessory. A further option is a coiled connecting cable (KA 600) from an XLR-3 connector to a 3.5 mm jack plug. 8.D50
Probe has OTT capability
Bridge Technologies By Ian McMurray
A new version of the VB12- RF – described as a compact, highly portable broadcast-IP monitoring and measurement appliance for terrestrial, cable and OTT applications – has been announced by Bridge Technologies. Packing every required interface into an airtight and waterproof polycarbonate unit smaller than a laptop computer, the VB12-RF features full TR101290 alarming and analysis, and
support for all major transportation codecs. Now with a built-in 10-channel OTT engine, the VB12-RF is said to be the world’s first portable broadcast probe with OTT capability, and far more practical, complete, and robust than traditional PC- based alternatives. Also new is Bridge’s
microAnalytics System for monitoring OTT and ‘TV everywhere’ services to multiple devices including smartphones and tablets. The microAnalytics System allows operators to remotely access realtime data from set-top
boxes, connected TVs, iPads, iPhones and other mobile devices, making accurate and comprehensive end-to-end multiservice/OTT monitoring a reality for the first time. 1.A30
Portable data terminal Vislink By Ian McMurray
Making its European debut is the broadcast version of Vislink’s Advent Mantis MSAT Man Portable Data Terminal. Alongside it, a new HD micro camera from Gigawave is being introduced.
At only 12.5kg, the Advent
MSAT can easily be carried by one person. Vislink says that the system’s integrated design means that set up takes only minutes, making it ideal for rapid deployment field applications.
The antenna comes with a 65 or 90cm reflector as standard and can be configured to be
used in Ka, Ku and X bands. Gigawave’s full-resolution HD
micro camera measures only 80x24x24mm (without lens) and weighs 80gms. Powered by a 10–18VDC supply, with HD-SDI video input arriving via SMB connector, the camera is designed to deliver broadcast quality images in the most demanding environments. 1.A61
