Digital Rapids By Carolyn Giardina
The new StreamZ Live Broadcast – a live encoder developed to support both multiscreen streaming and broadcast operations – is among the latest technologies on display at the Digital Rapids stand. Aimed at broadcast, cable, telco and satellite television
operations, StreamZ Live Broadcast features
simultaneous H.264 or MPEG-2 encoding for broadcast applications and multiformat encoding – including adaptive bit-rate (ABR) streaming. It accommodates streaming to multiscreen devices including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, IPTV and OTT services. Also on display are new
features for Digital Rapids’ StreamZ Live family of encoders
for live streaming applications. Available in single or multichannel models with HD, SD and IP input choices, StreamZ Live features ABR support and simultaneous multiformat output for streaming to devices from mobile phones and tablets to PCs, game consoles and smart TVs. New features include enhanced Closed Caption support for adaptive bit rate streaming and expanded support for automated advertising insertion workflows.
Featured demonstrations in the company’s Connected World pod, meanwhile, will include StreamZ Live and how it might be used to transform
Shout and Engage to make TV social
Chyron By Carolyn Giardina
Shout, a software application that enables broadcasters to bring social media commentary into their live broadcasts; and Engage, a second screen and social TV platform, are making their
European debut at Chyron’s IBC stand. “The beauty of both of these applications is how easily they integrate with our existing workflows, enabling broadcasters to deepen and personalise their relationship with viewers — representing a very big ‘social media bang’ at incremental cost
to the broadcasters,” said Paul Glasgow, vice president of EMEA sales at Chyron.
With Shout, broadcasters can monitor, select, adjust, and route social media conversations to broadcast graphics systems either for on-air playback or for storage as data files for later use. Multiple instances of
Animation extensions Q&A
Autodesk By Carolyn Giardina
Autodesk has developed new extensions for its Maya 2013 and 3ds Max 2013 3D animation software, which are included in the Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suites 2013. Available to users with active subscription contracts, the extensions provide tools aimed at enabling artists to create more sophisticated physical simulations and move data more easily.
The extension for 3ds Max augments the Particle Flow system. Artists can create particle simulations that replicate real-world effects with the new
mParticles module for the MassFX system of simulation solvers. In addition, users can create customised Particle Flow tools with a new Advanced Data Manipulation toolset. This extension was also developed to help artists to work more efficiently with Cache Disk and Cache Selective, two new Cache operators for the Particle Flow toolset. This feature will also be available in the extension for 3ds Max 2013 software. The extension for Maya 2013
software includes the new Maya DX11Shader, which is aimed at helping artists use Microsoft DirectX 11 to create and edit assets in less time. 7.D25
