A new software upgrade allows the SSL C100 HDS to be used by two operators
Solid State Logic By David Davies
Developed in response to feedback from SSL clients, V5 software for the C100 HDS Digital Broadcast Console is particularly relevant to mobile installations when two operators are necessary to work on complex productions, but where space and weight are at a premium.
SSL’s Dual Operator Mode
provides two operators with the ability to have independent physical controls and access to shared audio assets, through a single console processing engine, routing and I/O configuration. The system allows for an unlimited number of consecutive eight-channel fader bays to be assigned to a second operator. These bays can be located at either end of a
C100 console, or separated and installed in a remote location such as a production gallery. The second operator bays can be specified with a dedicated Master Tile to provide access to EQ, dynamics, aux sends and various routing functions, or specified without a Master Tile for simple fader-only operation. Dual Operator Mode splits the C100 PFL system to provide independent PFL control for each operator with monitoring via headphones, or the main or mini monitor outputs. If both operators access the PFL system simultaneously and route to the monitor outputs, the system delivers a sum of all selected channels. V5 also introduces a new momentary ‘non-latching’ PFL mode to facilitate shared use of monitor outputs.
Each operator will also have independent access to user layers to facilitate selection of individual channels to be laid out in each operator’s area and individual channels that are a shared resource, allowing simultaneous control from both operator areas. 8.D83
Getting social at IBC
Vizrt By Carolyn Giardina
Several products featuring social media integration are being showcased at the Vizrt stand. These include Viz Virtual Studio, which provides integration with Twitter, Facebook and YouTube; Viz Ticker, for the design of creative, graphic tickers; Viz Trio CG software; and Viz Multichannel for channel branding. Vizrt has also introduced
the Vizrt Skype Interface, which provides tools for the newsroom and production staff to interface with Skype calls directly from within newsroom systems Viz Trio and Viz Content Pilot. A new plug-in that allows users to access clips from their EVS servers directly through the Viz Artist interface is being demoed on the stand. And also at IBC is Vizrt’s MAM system Viz Media Engine, as well as its realtime 3D rendering
platform, Viz Engine with new DVS SpycerBox integration. SpycerBox streams video content from a SAN directly to Viz Engine. Viz Multichannel can be found with improved integration with Viz Trio, including new features such as multi-playlist support, faster playlist loading, integration with Viz Media Engine, support for timeline editors, and establishing an external preview channel. Social Media tools mean that Viz MultiChannel users can post Facebook updates about shows that are airing and upcoming, based upon the playlist. Vizrt’s LiberoVision is demonstrating its 3D sports analysis technology at the stand. This includes LiberoVision’s Libero Highlight 5.0, which includes the ability to telestrate directly from the iPad. The company also reported that rendering has been improved and quickened in version 5.0. 7.A10
