Addressing SDI output needs with Delta
Deltacast By Monica Heck
Deltacast has launched a new product to better address the SDI output needs of customers. The new half-length and low- profile Delta-hd-elp-d 44 can
manage four HD-SDI inputs plus four HD-SDI outputs simultaneously. Early this year, the
company noticed that a lot of its customers were developing extremely compact capture solutions using its new low-profile card with eight SDI inputs;
previously, customers who required SDI outputs had to use bigger cards or multi-card solutions. The new card is fully supported by the company’s VideoMasterHD OEM SDK or via a higher- level DirectShow filter interface.
TV is now a new game
As our vision of The Networked Society is realised the phrase multiscreen will become redundant, explains Ove Anebygd, VP and head of television, Ericsson
Video is everywhere – on every device, website and street corner. But where is television? At IBC2012 the buzz word of our industry is multiscreen. However, in time, I believe the word ‘multiscreen’ will become redundant – consumers will simply expect it to be the natural evolution of their TV service and experience. In Ericsson’s vision of The Networked Society it is predicted by 2020 there will be 50 billion connected devices and of these more than 15 billion are expected to be video enabled. This connectivity will be matched by cloud services that bring ‘anything to everything’. Consumers will
expect, and become reliant on, their devices being always connected to high-speed and universal broadband access to what interests them and they can now easily share. We see this influence starting within the TV landscape. During the discussions I’ve had with many operators, it’s clear they see that consumers starting to control the way they access content, spurred on by new cloud-based on-demand services and a raft of in-home and mobile devices that are making discovery and connection simpler. Consumers are now thinking in terms of their overall TV

experience and the way they can connect or share their viewing activity with one another. If TV is to continue to be a premium experience worth paying for, content owners and TV service providers need to make the move towards multi- screen services now in order to drive their business forward and to compete against the unknown. They need to concentrate on getting the experience right, and ensuring that they stay in the game rather than get left behind by new entrants with fresh thinking, and reduced barrier to entry based on the shift towards IP delivery. When I talk to TV service
zoom includes a detachable servo drive unit, so that it can be used as a standard film-style PL mount lens as well as an ENG-style zoom. It also features flange focal distance adjustment, macro function, and is Lens Data System and /i metadata compatible. For precision, the digital servo uses 16-bit encoding for the lens data output.

The company also
launched two new compact multi-channel SDI capture cards earlier in the year. The Delta-hd-elp-d 80 offers eight HD-SDI inputs and the Delta-3G-elp-d 40 offers four 3G SDI inputs. Both cards are aimed at 1RU platforms, as they are designed on a half-length low-profile form factor using DIN 1.1/2.3
providers I am always keen to stress that they are in a superb position to hold onto customers with their trusted brands and established services, but they will have to transform their packaged services for every screen. To address this, the new solutions will require tight integration in the back-office to harmonise and interconnect every possible screen with one- another and any content. It’s clear that operators are
aware that not addressing this will lead to either significant increase in operational costs or real frustration among their subscribers that ultimately leads to less spend, or even churn. They don’t care about the technology behind the services, they will simply expect to be able to start watching a movie on their main TV set and finish watching it on their tablet in bed, for example. We must be aware that consumers’ evolution in expectation will continue at great pace.
