UEFA’s EURO 2012 Final Played on a Natural Grass Pitch with Turf Supplied by Richter Rasen
F
ounded in 1906, Richter Rasen (RR) has been producing top quality natural grass turf grass sods. The company supplies renowned soccer stadiums worldwide with their special RR-STADIUM-TURF®, which has to be cultivated for at least two years before being fully mature. This turf easily surpasses the requirements of DIN standards.
As the company has already supplied renowned football/soccer stadiums worldwide with RR-STADIUM-TURF®, major football associations also rank RR among the leading turf suppliers in the world.
With such credentials, it is little wonder that three of the host stadiums for this summer’s UEFA EURO 2012 championships chose RR-STADIUM-TURF®, namely: Donbass Arena (which Desso Grassmaster implemented earlier
this year); Lviv Arena; and finally the prestigious NSK Olimpiysky stadium in Kiev, Ukraine.
It is quite apt that Kiev was the final installation, as this was the venue that played host to UEFA’s EURO 2012 Final between Italy and Spain, which saw Spain victorious once again.
For the European league final games, Richter Rasen installed the natural grass turf sod three weeks prior to game day, using their RR STADIUM TURF SR 35mm (SR = Strong Rhizomical).
There have already been several testings of AG RASEN with DFB Germany and other international institutions, all receiving very good results.
RR STADIUM TURF® is a mixture of top class Bluegrasses (Poa pratensis) and Ryegrasses (Lolium perenne), which is extremely compatible with the continental climate. The plant population is grown on the rootzone, consisting of 98% silica sand solids and approximately 1.7% organic matter, which is perfect for football surfaces.
In addition to the three EURO 2012 stadium installations, RR’s turf has also been installed at Lia Manoliou Bucurest in Romania for the European League Final game, which took place on 9th May.
