At the Nürburgring, SKIDATA guarantees quick entry to parking areas, as well as fast and secure access to approximately 300 events a year.
SKIDATA Takes Pole Position for Access Management in Formula 1
Every race weekend throughout the Formula 1 season millions of people across the globe are kept on the edge of their seats, watching all the action on the circuit.
The Grand Prix of Germany and India are particular highlights for the fans, and every year more than 100,000 people flock to the Nürburgring and the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) to witness the action up close. In both cases, SKIDATA is responsible for providing fast and secure access management to these race circuits.
For fans, visitors and hosts, a successful Formula 1 experience starts with an access control system that is smooth, fast and secure; which SKIDATA’s systems have to be, being responsible for the admission of more than 100,000 people on two race weekends. At the Grand Prix of Germany and India, SKIDATA guarantees that fans get to the race circuits as quickly as possible, with the company’s most modern technology based on the needs of its customers; security and speed are of upmost concern when it comes to SKIDATA’s access control systems.
The Nürburgring is well known even beyond Formula 1, with its North Loop and Grand Prix circuit, it offers two of the most famous and challenging race circuits all at the same venue. Since 1927, the Nürburgring has held action-packed races, including not only Formula 1, but also DTM and 24-hour races. These excite returning fans year after year.
Today, the Nürburgring is far more than just a legendary race circuit, with numerous

attractions having been added to the complex, which enables it to be a year- round destination for leisure and adventure activities, including not only attractions for automobile enthusiasts, but also for rock music fans and families looking for fun and recreation.
Millions of people visit some 100 motorsport events and approximately 200 other events at the circuit annually, so naturally smooth access logistics play a key role. SKIDATA provides the Nürburgring with fast and efficient entry to parking areas, as well as quick and secure access to its attractions. Permanent and mobile access controls, technology for print@home tickets and VIP access, as well as a combination of parking and access technology — all of these enable flexible controls and creative ticketing. For example, visitors can print off their tickets at home and quickly get to their destinations via access devices, with no extra stops at the ticket office needed.
The Grand Prix of India is a new event on the Formula 1 calendar, with the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), which is located some 40km outside of New Delhi, hosting its first Formula 1 race in 2011. During the construction of the race circuit, SKIDATA was responsible for the entire infrastructure, from IT to electronics and access systems — thus, taking the lead right from the beginning. At the first Grand Prix, a total of 118 SKIDATA turnstiles enabled efficient and problem-free access for 125,000 motorsport fans.
