Elks Drug Awareness Program


Catalina Mountain, AZ, Lodge members participated in a National Take Back Day event and gave drug awareness information to more than 100 people who turned in their unused prescription drugs to Oro Valley Police Department representatives.


Mesa-Buckhorn, AZ, Lodge members gave drug awareness coloring books to about 300 third-grade students at Jefferson, Taft, and Emerson Elemen- tary Schools as part of a dictionary distribution project.


Fayetteville-Springdale, AR, Lodge members gave drug awareness pamphlets to 43 children who partici- pated in a Fishing Derby at the lodge. The lodge also invited a DEA agent to speak to the children about the dangers of drug abuse.


Orange, CA, Lodge members gave a drug awareness bookmark to each of more than 2,400 third graders as part of a dictionary distribution.


San Diego, CA, Lodge held its fourth annual Salad Bowl fund-raiser, which featured a bowling contest followed by a salad bar lunch, and raised more than $500 to purchase red ribbons and other drug awareness materials to be distributed to area children.


Vacaville, CA, Lodge members staffed a booth at the Vacaville Kid Fest community event and gave more than 760 Say NO to Drugs bracelets and stickers, as well as hundreds of drug awareness bags containing pencils, coloring books, bookmarks, and rulers, to children and their parents who attended the event.


Victorville, CA, Lodge members gave drug awareness information to each of

Lake Wales, FL, Lodge members visited Polk Avenue Elementary School and gave drug awareness pamphlets, coloring books, pencils, red ribbons, and stickers to about 550 students. The lodge also gave a free dinner to the winner of the school’s Drug Awareness Poster Contest.


Melbourne, FL, Lodge held a Say Boo to Drugs Halloween Party and treated 65 local children to games, food, beverages, and a costume contest, with more than $4,500 in gift cards as prizes. Lodge members gave each child a T-shirt and a bag filled with drug awareness materials and Elks mem- bership information for their parents. The lodge also donated $100 to Dr. W. J. Creel Elementary School for having the most children attending the party. In other news, lodge members gave a drug awareness bookmark to each of


nearly 190 children as part of a dictionary distribution program. Lodge members also gave drug awareness coloring books to 125 kindergarten and prekindergarten students at Dr. W. J. Creel Elemen- tary School.


Plant City, FL, Lodge members, accompanied by Elroy the Elk, visited three elementary schools and gave drug awareness red ribbons, rulers, coloring books, pencils, and pamphlets to 1,750 children. In other news, lodge members, with the help of Elroy the Elk, gave drug awareness bags containing coloring books, rulers, and pencils to 30 children who attended a Halloween party at the lodge.


Bluffton, IN, Lodge members attended the Bluffton Free Street Fair’s Industrial Parade and distributed about 500 drug awareness bags containing coloring books and pam- phlets to spectators.
