Elyria, OH, Lodge held its annual Walter “Joe” McManus Golf Outing fund-raiser and raised more than $2,300 for the state major project, which provides aid to cerebral palsy treatment centers. A total of 88 golfers participated in the event. In other news, lodge members distributed dictionaries to 950 third- grade students in the Midview and Elyria School Districts.


Roswell, NM, Lodge held its Elks Fighting Cancer Charity Golf Tournament, in which 96 golfers competed, and through sponsorships and a raffle raised $18,000 for the Chaves County Cancer Fund. Bristol County, RI, Lodge held its annual Soccer Shoot, in which more than 250 children ages 13 and younger took part, and gave certificates to all the participants. Each participant advancing to the state level also received a shirt. Pictured taking a shot is six- year-old contestant Alice Grantham. In other news, the lodge raffled off two New England Patriots football game tickets and raised more than $550 for the East Bay Kids Program, which gives food baskets to needy families. The lodge also held a Clothing Drive and collected more than $3,500 worth of new clothing to be distributed to needy people in the area.

Chili Cook-Off, which featured a silent auction and live musical entertain- ment and raised $1,000; an all-male Miss America Pageant, which raised $1,700; and a Silent Auction and T- shirt Sale Booth at the Texas Elks State Association Homecoming in Ottine, TX, which raised additional funds. Sweetheart events raise money that is designated specifically for the state major project, Texas Elks Children’s Services.


Liberty, NY, Lodge members distrib- uted dictionaries to third-grade students at Liberty Elementary School, St. Peter’s Regional School, and the White Sulphur Springs Education Center, which serves students with disabilities.


In other news, the lodge lowered its US flag to half-mast to mourn the deaths of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.


Greensboro, NC, Lodge donated $350 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Greensboro and $250 to the Kiser Middle School Walk for Kiser, which raises funds to help pay for supplies and clothing for needy Kiser Middle School students.

In other news, the lodge held its annual First Responders Memorial and Recognition Breakfast, which featured live musical entertainment. During the event, which more than 250 people attended, lodge members commemorated the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and presented plaques to seven outstanding emergency services personnel and volunteers to recognize their service to the community. In more news, lodge members cooked for and served about 100 people who participated in the annual Robert Solis Memorial Poker Run, which raises funds for Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), a charity that supports the families of slain law enforcement officers. The lodge also donated $200 to COPS.


Rock Hill, SC, Lodge members distributed more than 1,900 dictionaries to third-grade students in the Rock Hill and York School Districts. In other news, the lodge and ladies auxiliary held a Barbecue fund-raiser for lodge member Todd Belk to help pay for his cancer treatment. Lodge members sold more than 900 plates of food and raised about $11,500 for the Belk family.


Lexington-Shelby, OH, Lodge mem- bers cleared brush, planted flowers, trimmed hedges, and removed bushes and a tree from the grounds of Women’s Care, Inc., of Mansfield, OH. In other news, lodge members honored Amanda Howell as their Student of the Year in a ceremony at the lodge and gave her a gift card to recognize her volunteer activities.


In more news, the lodge held a Golf Tournament fund-raiser, in which 64 golfers competed, and raised $3,000. The funds were split between the Special Olympics and the state major project, which supports the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association.
