East Stroudsburg, PA, Lodge held a National Patriotism Week Dinner, which 70 people attended. During the dinner, lodge members presented a plaque to Stroud Regional Police Force Officer Christopher Shelly to recognize him as their Police Officer of the Year and posthumously honored Stroudsburg Fire Chief C. Butch Kochanski as their Firefighter of the Year and presented a plaque to his widow, Joanne. During the event, lodge members also presented the Elks
Dalhart, TX, Lodge members honored US Army SSG Tyler Bailey for his service in Afghanistan in a ceremony at the lodge and treated him and his family to dinner. Lodge members also sent six care packages to US troops serving in combat zones overseas.
Erie, PA, Lodge held its annual Day at the Zoo for 80 children and adults with developmental disabilities from the Erie Home for Children and Adults. Participants were treated to a visit to the zoo, train rides, lunch, a trip to a petting zoo, and small gifts. In other news, the lodge held a three-day Jamboree fund-raiser, which featured camping, live music, food, raffles, and auctions, as well as games, face painting, and entertainment by clowns. The event raised more than $25,000 for the state major project, the PA Elks Home Service Program, which provides in-home therapy to children with special needs.

Medal of Valor to the family of US Army CPL Michael Jankiewicz, of the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, in honor of his service. Corporal Jankiewicz died in Afghanistan on April 9, 2010. Corporal Jankiewicz’s family also received a special citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
