Elks Care— Elks Share


Bessemer, AL, Lodge members treated more than 50 emergency services personnel to a barbecue lunch at the lodge. Lodge members also treated more than 25 firefighters and emergency rescue workers to break- fast at the lodge.


Childersburg, AL, Lodge held the annual Batten Disease Dart Tourna- ment. Members of the Bessemer, Childersburg, and Calera, AL, Lodges participated in the tournament, which raised nearly $450 for the Batten Disease Research and Support Association, an organization that supports research into Batten Disease, a genetic neurological disease that particularly affects children.


Dothan, AL, Lodge members treated about 125 soldiers based at US Army Fort Rucker and their families—a total of about 400 people—to a

Chino Valley, AZ, Lodge held its first annual Public Safety Appreciation Dinner, which 74 people attended, honored Cody Rose as Firefighter of the Year, Renee Hendricks as Dispatcher of the Year, and Brandon Frost as Police Officer of the Year, and gave each of the honorees a plaque in recognition of his or her outstanding service. Mobile, AL, Lodge hosted a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Eric White, of lodge-sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 20, and gave him a certificate. For his Eagle Scout Project, White built several benches


along a walkway connecting two buildings at a local school and land- scaped the area around the school’s sign. The lodge also donated a $500 ENF Gratitude Grant to Troop No. 20 to help it purchase camping gear.


Casa Grande Valley, AZ, Lodge members distributed dictionaries to 1,250 third-grade students.


Catalina Mountain, AZ, Lodge members delivered turkey dinners to eight fire stations to thank the firefighters for their service to the community and to commemorate the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.


In other news, lodge members distributed 375 dictionaries to third- grade students at five elementary schools. The lodge also held its annual Soccer Shoot, in which 15 children participated, gave medals to the top
