BRISEIDA HERNANDEZ Happy Birthday, Elks!
N February 16, 1868, this great Order was founded by a group of men called the Jolly Corks. They were a social group but wanted to become more. Their passion to protect each other and to provide for the less fortunate put pep in their step and drove them to become the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. As we celebrate the 143rd birthday of our Order, let us “Be Proud, Be Loud, and Be Visible.” Let us honor those who came before us and provided us with the opportunity to carry on the Elks’ rich legacy of service. Be proud that the Elks provided the first hospital for veterans after World War I; be proud that the Elks were one of the major ring that wonderful symbol of hope and freedom,
O
contributors in restoring that wonderful symbol of hope and freedom, the Statue of Liberty. Be proud that Elks have served this great nation in every war and conflict since the inception of our Order. Be proud of all that the Elks have done and continue to do in serving their communities, veterans, those less fortunate, and our nation. Be loud and visible as you ser
e less fortunate, and our nation.
Be loud and visible as you serve your lodge and your community. Let everyone know how passionate Elks are in their service to others. If we as an Order are to celebrate another 143 years, we must
others. If we as an Order are to celebrate another 143 years, we must share our good works with our families, our friends, and our fellow citizens. We must bring in new members who share the same passion we have for serving others, and most importantly, we must care and share not only with those we serve, but with each other. I would like to thank a special group of Elks, our past exalted rulers. You have served your lodges, and many of you have gone on to serve your state associations and the Grand Lodge. You have my gratitude for your service, for without dedicated and passionate leaders, our Order cannot continue to grow and serve others. I ask that you continue to do all you can to assist your lodge officers by providing your advice and counsel.
May God bless and protect our armed forces, our Order, and the United States of America.
