BooMax is a new 2.4G wireless lavalier mic offering secure backup, 48kHz/32-bit fl oat recording, 32GB on-board storage and a range of up to 250m in the open. Each of the two transmitter packs in the BooMax kit has two 6mm microphone capsules: an omnidirectional mic for all-around sounds and multi-person talks, and a cardioid mic for single speech, interview or podcast. The transmitters also support external 3.5mm microphone input. Each transmitter has 32GB of storage, allowing for 40 hours of audio recording, useful for audio backup during live streaming. BooMax can be connected to the Comica Audio app via Bluetooth, enabling users to check the recording state and adjust various settings. Additionally, the receiver features a small touchscreen and a precision dial, allowing users to monitor and adjust volume, battery level, audio mode and other information. It also has 3.5mm TRS/TRRS analogue and monitoring ports, as well as a USB-C digital signal output. The units use Comica’s own CalMix AI denoise to fi lter out background noises and make recordings clearer. Following a joint EBU, Linux Foundation and North American Broadcasters Association initiative, the fi rst Media eXchange Layer (MXL) SDK is now available, clearing the path to what the EBU refers to as Dynamic Media Facilities (DMF). These will enable real- time exchange of video, audio and metadata within software- based, containerised media production environments. The DMF architecture aims to move from traditional hardware- based production towards virtualised media processing: modular functions running in containers or on cloud
infrastructure. MXL serves as the virtual cabling or exchange fabric, standardising communication between media components. It will enable low-latency media transfer between compute nodes and production clusters, offering interoperability across tools and platforms. MXL should facilitate more agile production setups: scaling services up or down, shifting workloads between local servers and cloud providers, and deploying vendor-neutral media processing stacks as needed. It is compatible with the demands of live and near-live production and enables asynchronous internode transfer and even faster-than-live operation – benefi ts not available in traditional SDI- or IP-based protocols alone. 10.D21

Lens adapter specialist Kipon has entered the medium format cine lens market with the Cinespeed65. The fi rst lens in the new line is a 65mm T1.4, which is based on Hasselblad’s 110mm T2, and is claimed to deliver “unmatched depth, clarity and cinematic character”. Kipon has built its latest BavEyes 1.3x65mm expander into the Cinespeed65. The expander is claimed to be “the
world’s fi rst for the upcoming large sensor cameras” and is designed for new and recently introduced large-format cameras, such as the Fujifi lm GFX Eterna, Blackmagic Design 17K and Arri Alexa 65. It allows users to adapt their existing full-frame lenses for use on larger formats.
