24 COLLABORATE, LEARN AND ADAPT AT THE IBC CONFERENCE


The power of collaboration, the shifting sports broadcasting landscape and the need for differentiation in a crowded marketplace are just some of the topics being explored today at the IBC Conference. At 12:00, Pedro Pina, VP of


YouTube, EMEA, will be on stage with Grace Boswood, Director of Technology and Distribution, Channel 4, discussing how YouTube is partnering with broadcasters to adapt to the rapidly evolving media consumption landscape. They will focus on the signifi cant shift towards content consumption in the living room, the strategies for reaching new audiences and the tools available to be successful in today’s media ecosystem.


This is followed by ‘The Power of Collaboration: How strategic partnerships are transforming broadcasting’, which will


explore the far-reaching implications of collaboration and partnerships and how they are driving innovation and growth in the sector. Panellists include Elena Petrova, Head of Content Partnerships and Media Solutions, A1 Telekom Austria Group; Harish Sarma, VP Business Development and Partnerships, Yahoo Mail; Jorrit Eringa, Head of Media Partnerships, DACH, The Netherlands and Nordics, Snap; Katharine Wen, Director of Strategy & Development International Syndication, Sky; and Liz Riemersma, Vice President – Strategy, Business Development & International, Sling TV.

The day ends with ‘The Business of TV: The battle for prominence and the search for growth: Competition and differentiation in a crowded market’, a panel debate around the strategies for gaining market share and getting content seen in the smart TV OS landscape. Frank Rippl, Global Head of TV Product, Vodafone; Matthew Henick, SVP of Ventura TV OS, The Trade Desk; Sidharth Jayant, Chief Product Offi cer, Rakuten TV; and Tom Price, Director of Content Distribution, Roku, will be sharing their experiences.


TACKLE REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES WITH IBC TECHNICAL PAPERS


The world-renowned Technical Papers programme, part of the IBC Conference, begins today. Industry leaders will be sharing cutting-edge research across live sports production, streamed content delivery and innovation in terrestrial broadcasting in a series of in-depth sessions.


First up, ‘Sport – AI, AR and 5G’ will showcase state-of-the-art advances in live sports production through the integration of artifi cial intelligence, augmented reality and private 5G infrastructure. The fi rst paper discloses an AI-powered assistant used in the Paris 2024 Olympics, which delivered ultra-low-latency, real- time computer graphic overlays for swimming and fencing. Next, a private 5G deployment during the 2025 World University Winter Games is presented. Finally, a breakthrough AI/AR system for live outdoor cycling will be introduced, overcoming long-standing limitations in


utilises QUIC over HTTP combined with server side controlled adaptive bitrate pacing to mitigate the bursty nature of contemporary streaming techniques to reduce delivery latency. The second presents Coded Multisource Media Format (CMMF), a protocol-agnostic container format that enables effi cient, decentralised multi- source, multi-path and multi- access content delivery for services requiring high availability and robustness. ‘Future of Broadcasting – 5G

these challenging production environments. Two very different approaches to improving streamed content delivery will be presented In the ‘Streaming – Low Latency and Multi-Source’ session. The fi rst


broadcast and Brazilian TV3.0’ will shine a light on the innovation continuing to take place in terrestrial broadcasting. The fi rst paper from Globo presents Brazil’s next-generation digital TV standard, ‘Lighthouse’. The second paper, from RAI, presents results of 5G broadcast trials undertaken in Rome and Turin. The study made use of (software modifi ed) commercially


available mobile phone handsets – highlighting just how close and compelling such a deployment could be. The fi nal session of the day – ‘Advances in Wireless Technology – 6G Media and 5G for PMSE’ – will share two papers investigating challenging wireless applications. The fi rst focuses on wireless programme making and special events, examining the changing regulatory framework and the complex technical choices now available. The fi nal paper of the day presents a collective vision from leading companies on the evolution of media services in the 6G era.
