PORTAL OPENS A NEW ERA OF SPATIAL CONTENT CREATION Xgrids BY DAVID FOX

First-time exhibitor Xgrids is unveiling PortalCam, which it claims is “the world’s fi rst true spatial camera”, saying it will enable creators to capture walkable, interactive worlds. Sunny Liao, Xgrids’ Director of Global Business, said: “We’re not just launching a spatial camera – we’re ushering in the spatial content era. Every major media revolution required new

infrastructure. PortalCam is that infrastructure for 3D content creation, enabling any creator to build immersive experiences that audiences don’t just watch, but explore.”

It is built on Xgrids’ 3D Gaussian splatting technology, which transforms an environment into interactive 3D content with cinematic quality and spatial precision. The device represents a fundamental shift from recording moments to preserving entire experiential worlds. It will allow rapid environment

OPTIMISED APPROACH TO PREMIUM VOD VisualOn

BY ANNE MORRIS

Content-adaptive encoding and video optimisation specialist VisualOn is holding a joint demo with its partner Axinom showing how they can streamline the delivery of premium VoD content in bandwidth-constrained environments.

Axinom Encoding, part of the Axinom Mosaic platform, now natively integrates VisualOn Optimizer, which can be enabled with a single checkbox inside the user interface. Yang Cai, CEO and President of

VisualOn, said: “We’re excited to partner with Axinom to bring VisualOn Optimizer into practical, high-value use cases like in-fl ight entertainment. This collaboration highlights how intelligent, AI-powered encoding can be seamlessly integrated into existing workfl ows to improve delivery effi ciency and user experience, especially in environments where bandwidth is at a premium.” According to VisualOn, the Optimizer uses per-scene encoding to reduce fi le size by up to 67%. It also works with common codecs such as H.264, H.265 and AV1.

complete spatial fi delity for virtual sets combining both indoor and outdoor scenes. It uses LiDAR plus a four-camera system to deliver photorealistic spatial capture at walking speed, aided by advanced onboard spatial computing with real-time optimisation. It outputs industry-standard 3DGS, as well as proprietary LixelCyberColor Studio. PortalCam also has comprehensive software support for integration with major 3D platforms and game engines such as Unity and Unreal. 12.H21a

One early production use case comes from the aviation sector, where a global airline was able to deliver high-quality video to aircraft while staying within strict bandwidth constraints. Johannes Jauch, Chief

Technology Offi cer at Axinom, said: “This collaboration showcases how easily our customers can unlock the power of intelligent encoding. With just one setting in the Mosaic management system, they can dramatically reduce bandwidth use without compromising quality. It’s high impact with zero friction.” 5.A55

CHARTING A COURSE THROUGH MEDIA WORKFLOWS Starline Computer BY KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD

Real-world system confi gurations developed in response to common customer requirements are on show on the Starline Computer stand. One featured setup comes

from creative agency FilmFabrik, which works with a network of photographers, editors and freelancers. With its VMware licence expiring and hardware outdated, the agency required a future-proof virtualisation platform.

Zealbox servers can run Proxmox virtualisation platforms

The team selected the Proxmox platform, deployed on a Zealbox server with 24 drive bays. A separate fi re compartment was used to house a tape-based backup system. Additional backup was handled by a Qualstar Q24 tape library, managed via Archiware

P5 in another part of the building. As the library only has SAS ports, the installation team also required the 10GbE-to-SAS bridge XstreamCore 8100T from ATTO.

rendering, FilmFabrik opted for workloads on a fully populated NVMe server, equipped with a Graid SupremeRAID SR- 1010 controller. The editing suite comprises four macOS workstations, each connected via

Thunderbolt to a 500TB storage backend. For photography, Areca ARC-8050T3U Thunderbolt storage units serve both studio and mobile needs, with rugged transport cases for use in the fi eld. To manage active and archived data separately, Infortrend’s EonStor GSx was chosen for scalable object storage. Freelancers can securely access project data from anywhere via HTTP/S3, with no need for VPN access, which Starline describes as a must-have for modern remote workfl ows. 7.D15
