USER-FRIENDLY KVM SYSTEMS FOR MODERN BROADCAST WORKFLOWS
Jochen Bauer, EVP Sales & Product Management, Guntermann & Drunck
In broadcast environments, ease of use is increasingly taking centre stage, as it significantly influences the efficiency and quality of daily workflows. With the growing complexity of technical systems and processes, the demand for well-structured user interfaces and seamlessly integrated solutions continues to rise. Guntermann & Drunck (G&D) meets these requirements with multi-viewing technologies that have been specially developed to simplify processes and reliably support demanding tasks.
SIMPLIFYING COMPLEX SYSTEMS THROUGH SMART USER INTERFACES In control rooms, it is common practice to monitor and manage multiple signal sources and systems simultaneously. A well-designed user interface helps simplify these tasks, reduce the likelihood of errors, and boost productivity. Modern multiviewing systems allow operators to display and control multiple video sources from a single, intuitive interface. This consolidated view supports rapid response – a crucial advantage during live broadcasts where every second counts. Responsiveness is critical in live situations.
Delays can compromise the broadcast signal and, consequently, audience engagement. That’s why it’s essential for operators to switch between sources, adjust settings, or manage content without any waiting time. A clearly structured operating concept also shortens the onboarding process for new staff and enables a quick, efficient start to daily operations.

FUTURE-PROOF BROADCAST SOLUTIONS THROUGH INTELLIGENT INTEGRATION In modern broadcast setups, a wide range of hardware and software solutions are used. Reliable integration of these components is essential for a unified and disruption-free workflow. High-performance KVM systems can be seamlessly integrated into existing infrastructures, helping to avoid
THINKING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX
Aret video and audio engineering BY KEVIN EMMOTT
Combining exclusive Coachworx technology and a range of Lawo IP kit, Aret is aiming to “redefine mobile production standards” with the unveiling of its OB trailer. With support for up to 34 UHD cameras, hybrid 12G-SDI/IP workflows, and full UHD HDR production capability, the 14m mobile unit
features a rare ‘box-over-box’ expansion on the left side and one wide traditional ‘box-in-box’ expansion on the right, creating three acoustically optimised independent workspaces for video shading, production and audio. Lawo’s IP-native audio and control systems form the unit’s technical backbone. With native support for ST 2110, AES67/Ravenna, Madi and Dante, the audio control room is centred around a 64-fader mc²56 audio production console
driven by redundant A__UHD Core engines, each offering 1024 DSP channels and support for immersive audio workflows. Complementing the mc² system is a Lawo Power Core, which acts as a high-density gateway between IP and baseband audio while also providing additional DSP resources and I/O expandability. For control and orchestration, the OB trailer is equipped with Lawo’s Virtual Studio Manager, enabling unified routing and control of all signal
compatibility issues and streamline operations. This system flexibility also supports future growth and the integration of emerging technologies. To meet increasing complexity, systems
are needed that can reliably and efficiently support even the most demanding workflows. With flexible layouts and intelligent control features, users maintain full oversight at all times and ensure consistent content quality. Collaboration is becoming increasingly important – projects often involve multiple teams or locations working simultaneously. Centralised and networked platforms make cross-team communication easier. Multiviewing solutions enable access to content from various operator stations, supporting effective collaboration. Technological progress in the media industry demands solutions that meet rising requirements while maintaining a focus on usability. At G&D, we lay the foundation for a resilient, scalable broadcast infrastructure through the targeted use of intuitive control and seamlessly integrated systems. 8.B51
