CLOUD MIGRATION: PATHWAYS FOR MAXIMISING ROI

Baskar Subramanian, Co-founder and CEO, Amagi

Earlier this year, Amagi completed 10 years of cloud innovation, having pioneered cloud playout to drive better broadcast efficiencies and cost savings compared to traditional models. While the business case for cloud migration has always been obvious for broadcasters, we see customers continuing to look for meaningful ROI and ways to maximise it.

For those riding the current industry trends, certain pathways to maximising ROI could be worth considering. Today, broadcasters are increasingly looking at an OTT play in addition to their traditional cable distribution and delivery. Rightly so, as streaming becoming the new TV is a clear trend. As broadcasters look at cloud migration, a unified workflow to cater to multiple distribution platforms is critical. Viewers and platforms expect streaming to be nothing less than a cable-like viewing experience. Leveraging the power of the cloud offers a cohesive approach to achieving these and helps realise better ROI.

Another popular trend is single live events that are becoming viable using the cloud. More often than not, when we think of live broadcasts or streaming, the norm is investing in an expensive live production and playout system that must be harnessed well to realise value and returns over time.

However, this limits how much content rights one can maximise. With single live events, one can spin up cloud infrastructure for the duration of the event and terminate it when the event ends – all without upfront investment and lock-in of hardware infrastructure. It benefits rights owners and rightsholders of live sports, music, news, or special events, who can now run multiple live

events, not just limited to their own premium rights. They can now offer more content, expand distribution to their D2C apps, widen viewership and increase ad revenues.

At IBC, look for Amagi Dynamic, which brings up a live production and playout system on the cloud instantly for the duration of an event. What’s more, it paves the way to demonstrate ROI immediately. Lastly, FAST deserves its own mention, with enterprise-level TV networks, content owners, studios and video delivery platforms looking for a FAST strategy. It gives an excellent opportunity to leverage existing cloud infrastructure and create new revenue streams. Amagi Now, a one-stop, modular SaaS

platform, enables the management, delivery and distribution of FAST channels to multiple linear and VOD platforms. It reduces time-to-market and achieves faster revenue realisation and ROI. 5.A81

NU.TRON ACHIEVES STABILITY WITHOUT ELECTRONICS Nu.Tron star: Cinetica’s system offers weightless and stable camera movement

Cinetica BY DAVID FOX

First-time exhibitor Cinetica is showing Nu.Tron 4.0 – a “purely mechanical tool” that offers weightless and stable camera movement “without electronic limitations”. The camera remains stable in any position by the sole means of perfect balancing, without electronic stabilisers. Featuring no remote control, batteries, or “unnecessary extras”, it is very much a hands-on device, where the user guides the camera

weightlessly and without losing stability. Because the operator is free of any physical load, they can focus solely on the scene. It has a horizontal range of up to 5m, vertical reach of 3.7m and can carry a 20kg payload, while being both compact and relatively lightweight (33.5kg), and it can be used in tight spaces. It is compatible with both Euromount and Mitchell mounts, while heavy duty risers are available in seven lengths. It can also be used with various stabilisation systems, such as gimbals or Steadicam. 12.F89
