What are the biggest
challenges facing the media and entertainment industry? One of the biggest challenges today is to do more with less without compromising quality. For the media and entertainment industry this means centralising operations, having products that can be reconfi gured on-the-fl y for multiple functions, and being able to remotely control and produce events with very low latency, excellent quality and reasonable data rates, especially sports. Cobalt Digital continues to add capabilities to its software-defi ned product portfolio to meet these exact evolving needs of today’s broadcast facilities.
What do you think are the main drivers in your market sector? Competing for viewer loyalty is a tremendous driver in live/ sports, whether on traditional TV or streaming services. There is constant demand for tools that elevate the quality of the entertainment experience and keep fans engaged. High Dynamic Range (HDR) is one of the most compelling technologies for an engaging and improved viewer experience, especially in live
production. Cobalt’s 9904-UDX-4K openGear processing card provides static and dynamic SDR-to-HDR conversion along with other numerous capabilities, including conversion, routing, colour correction, 3D-LUT processing, mutichannel signal processing, just to name a few. Cobalt is a founding member of the RIST (Reliable Internet Stream Transport) protocol, which is supported in the Pacifi c compression and in the SafeLink Gateway product lines. SafeLink protects live video and audio over unsecured networks for an optimum streaming experience.
How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? Cobalt talks to customers to learn what they need and delivers products that not only keep them competitive but help them excel. Our products offer low power, cost-effective, multi-functional solutions in a compact footprint, and since most of our products are offered in the openGear form factor, our customers benefi t from an extremely fl exible infrastructure that doesn’t limit options but
opens the door to maximum interoperability.
What are the main areas of focus for your company during IBC2023?

WITH VIRSO S WIRELESS MICROPHONE MEANS NO WIRES
Godox Photo Equipment BY DAVID FOX
The new Godox Virso and Virso S are 2.4GHz wireless microphone systems that can also offer cable- free connections via Sony’s Multi Interface hot shoe (Virso S version only). This allows for a more stable connection and higher audio quality beyond what a traditional 3.5mm cable connection can offer, according to the company. The
standard Virso uses 3.5mm cable – which the S can also use on non-Sony cameras. The units enable three-person
recording, boast a 200m transmission distance and offer long battery life. The extended battery life runs to 13 hours of operation for the transmitter and 17 hours for the receiver on a single charge. The standard Virso M2 package includes a charging case for on-the-go recharging, suitable for location shoots with limited access to power outlets,
and has enough power for 2.5 charges. The Virso S has built-in microphones in both the transmitter and receiver and can also be used with lavalier mics. The built-in is useful for the receiver, in that the person behind the camera doesn’t require an extra transmitter. The receiver can also record internally for up to 400 hours using a 256GB Micro SD memory card. 12.F42
