#IBC2023
79 Will Waters, Principal Product Manager, Audinate What are the biggest
challenges facing the media and entertainment industry? The industry is always evolving to meet new challenges head-on. The current challenge is meeting the varied content desires of customers all while maintaining high production standards with constrained production budgets. Ensuring maximum interoperability of technology and flexibility of staff is critical to maintaining maximum productivity to meet content challenges.
How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? At its core, Audinate provides Dante technology to ensure interoperability of technology across multiple manufacturers. Typically, connections between devices are established across a local area network. Now,
with Dante Connect, we are moving those connections across the cloud, allowing teams to work on-premises, or across long distances for necessary production services. This enables maximum flexibility of staffing, providing maximum technology usage and scalability across multiple projects.
What do you think are the main drivers in your market sector? Traditionally, production has a fundamental requirement that any device – a camera, microphone, mixer, etc – requires a 1:1 connection between devices. In today’s world we don’t have the luxury of space, infinite power and location. Dante technology paired with the internet protocol allows the flexibility to break away from these production paradigms, enabling multiple connections between devices from any location on the planet. Now
Drop by the stand to get a look at our newest technology serving the audio and video needs of the industry. Dante Connect moves Dante audio streams to the cloud, enabling work from anywhere to anywhere. Also, our latest video technologies, Dante AV Ultra, AV-A and AV-H, bring the same ease of use that the industry has come to rely upon for audio to video.
we break out of our traditional storytelling modes and evolve to new, more flexible models.
What are the main areas of focus for your company during IBC2023? We at Audinate are continuing to develop and introduce new technology to serve the industry’s evolving challenges.
What sets your company apart as a technology leader? Audinate has established Dante as the core technology enabling interconnectivity of audio and video devices. Our goal is to make it easy to connect devices from any manufacturer across cost-effective network technology. The technology we create – in both chips and software – will continue to meet the evolving challenges of the industry.

CAMERA CHARGING CHOICE BY USB-C AND V-MOUNT SmallRig BY DAVID FOX
A new range of USB-C rechargeable camera batteries for Canon, Sony and Fujifilm cameras is on show from SmallRig. It has also released new Compact and Advanced V-Mount battery mounting systems for mirrorless cameras. The batteries match the
existing Sony NP-FZ100, Canon LP-E6NH and Fujifilm NP-W235 models. The USB-C charging port means the batteries can be charged from power banks or a car charger – useful for those on the move. They can also be charged from a normal charger for their battery type.
The batteries use high-current charging (5v/2.2A), which can fully charge the 2400mAh batteries in 2.5 hours. The compact V-Mount battery mounting system is designed for cameras from Sony (FX3, various Alpha models), Canon (Eos R7 and other Eos models)
and Panasonic (Lumix models, such as the GH6). It has an L-shaped Arca-Swiss baseplate and the mount swings away for access to the camera’s flip screen. It can also be used with NP-F batteries or power banks (via adapters). It weighs 230g and attaches without tools. The Advanced version adds two 15mm rods and a chest pad. 11.B38
