Having successfully proved virtualised encoding and multiplexing for a complex, multi-region UK terrestrial television system, BT Media and Broadcast (BT M&B) says its software-based platform is now available for delivery of terrestrial and satellite television. Through its project with Digital 3&4 (D3&4), BT M&B upgraded ITV and Channel 4’s Freeview channels, with a move to start- to-fi nish cloud processing for regionalised TV via its Vena

platform. The development was a transition away from legacy hardware, using Vena to deliver digital encoding and multiplexing


securely and reliably, combining multiple content streams into one before onward regional distribution.


BT M&B’s software-based ‘coding and mux’ platform is now available for content providers across terrestrial and satellite. It offers virtualised encoding and multiplexing for improved operational effi ciency, lower energy consumption, enhanced fl exibility in both production and distribution, and greater regionalisation of channels. The platform itself is highly scalable and more robust. This is part of a wider project at BT M&B, which is planning to evolve its portfolio though bringing encoding and packaging to market on an industrial scale for OTT content. 0.A17


DEMANDING MPEG-5 LCEVC-BASED USE CASES DEMONSTRATED V-Nova

The MPEG-5 LCEVC Showcase has returned to IBC, demonstrating LCEVC-based use cases across broadcast, pay-TV, streaming, XR/VR and cloud gaming, powered by services from different vendors, including encoders, media players, cloud transcoders and online video platforms. More than 30 suppliers are showcasing use cases, including Allegro, Harmonic, MainConcept, NETINT Technologies, Nvidia, PresenZ, RealTek, Redpill VR,


THEOPlayer and V-Nova. According to V-Nova, vendors adopting the MPEG-5 LCEVC enhancement codec have witnessed benefi ts including improved image resolution, optimised bitrates, minimised bandwidth requirements, cost-effective streaming, lower latencies, streamlined and expedited deployment processes, and improved power effi ciency.
