GOOGLE TO FOCUS ON THE POTENTIAL OF GENERATIVE AI FOR M&E
Google is focusing on artifi cial intelligence – and in particular generative AI – during its sessions in the Showcase Theatre today. Generative AI is a form of AI technology able
to produce various types of content, including audio, images, video, text and synthetic data. Google itself announced at its annual I/O conference in May 2023 that it had added a host of generative AI tools to Google Cloud’s Vertex AI machine learning platform, including three new foundation models, embedding APIs for text and images, and the Generative AI Studio console tool for rapidly prototyping and testing generative AI models. Richard Lee is Head of Industry Marketing – Media, Entertainment & Games at Google Cloud. “Artifi cial Intelligence, and generative AI in particular, is top of mind for many within media this year,” he says. “As an AI-native company, this puts Google in a unique position. We look forward to sharing our perspective on this pertinent topic at IBC.” Speakers set to take part in Google’s Showcase Theatre session include: Anil Jain, Global Managing Director, Strategic Consumer Industries, Google Cloud; Dustin Myers, Senior Vice President, Production Operations, Fox Sports; and Phil Wiser, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Offi cer, Paramount. Lee implies that there is a recognition of the value of the forum provided by the IBC Showcase Theatre to discuss and share thoughts on the latest developments in global media and entertainment. “We are happy to participate in the Showcase Theatre this year and recognise that IBC is one of the world’s premiere events for media professionals,” he says. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our thoughts on the media industry alongside world-class media leaders.”

In line with the expectations of many other industry stakeholders visiting and exhibiting at this year’s show, Lee indicates AI will be a recurring topic throughout the event, where Google also has a showfl oor presence in Halls 4 and 13.
“AI is expected to be a compelling topic for many,” confi rms Lee. “While the technology
is fascinating, it’s crucial to also consider the needs of the media business. We are eager to discuss how cloud and AI can tackle opportunities and challenges within the industry, particularly the changes in direct- to-consumer models. We will explore how cloud and AI can provide solutions such as personalisation, recommendations and content distribution.”
Google is hosting sessions in the Showcase Theatre (12.A60) from 11:00-13:45 today.
These sessions are free to attend and no registration is required.
