From streamlining workfl ows to improving monetisation of content and delivering enhanced viewer experiences, the potential of AI across the media and entertainment industry appears virtually limitless. With so much talk, however, it can be diffi cult to know where the real opportunities lie, and how far along the AI journey we truly are. The IBC content programme is
here to offer some clarity, with a whole host of sessions debating what AI offers, where we are now, what’s next and how to proceed in a responsible manner. This morning sees a Technical Paper session on ‘How AI is Advancing Media Production’. Three papers will be presented examining the power AI has to infl uence the future of media creation, from AI-powered newsrooms to the creation of summary videos. Danielle Arets, Professor of Journalism and Innovation, Fontys University of Applied Sciences; Momoko Maezawa, Research Engineer, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation); and Punyabrota Dasgupta, Principal Solutions Architect, AWS India, will be sharing their fi ndings.
Generative AI will be the focus on the Showcase Theatre this afternoon. In ‘Gen AI as a Growth Engine for Content Innovation’, Andy Walker, Global Communications & Media Industry Lead, Accenture; Andy Beach, CTO, Media & Entertainment, Microsoft; and Tony Guarino, EVP Global Production & Studio Technology, Paramount, will explore the challenges and opportunities of using generative AI in the media and studio technology industry. Hear how the technology is being used to create new types of media content, personalise the experience for users, and improve the effi ciency of the media production process, as well as fi nding out more about the potential applications we’ll see in the near future.

GET ACTIVE IN THE ESPORTS ZONE
New for IBC2023, the esports Zone, powered by Unlocked, is a must-see feature in Hall 8. This dedicated space of almost 500sqm is demonstrating the very latest in esports production workfl ows and technology via three distinct production set ups, a partner zone and a networking area. Attendees are invited to immerse themselves in this interactive space which is using state-of-the-art racing simulators as the basis of the content generation. Ubisoft’s Helene Juguet will be taking to the Showcase Theatre stage on Monday
Theatre in Hall 12 on Monday (18 September), where a full day of gaming and entertainment content will be presented. Speakers from Omdia, EVS,
Ubisoft and more will be exploring the exciting developments at the intersection of gaming and media, and debating what the future might hold.
Highlights include a look at today’s top gaming trends with Liam Deane, Principal Analyst for Gaming Tech, Omdia at 11:00, and a fi reside chat with Helene Juguet, Managing Director, Ubisoft Film & Television Paris, entitled ‘From Gaming to On-screen: The hiccups and highlights’. Web Services, will look at the areas where businesses see the most value from AI, explain what experimentation is already taking place, and the misperceptions that need to be addressed. The Changemakers Programme will also consider the impact of AI, in two sessions on Sunday. Dex Hunter-Torricke, Head of Global Communications & Marketing, Google Deepmind, will kick things off with ‘Delving Deeper: Will AI help us solve humanity’s biggest challenges?’ at 13:30. A power panel will then look at the
opportunities and limitations of AI and discuss solutions to potential fl aws in ‘Tech for Good: Digital ethics and responsible AI’ at 13:45. This will feature Renard T Jenkins,
President of SMPTE; Alexandra Hussenot, Senior Executive and Board Advisor, Founder and CEO of Immersionn; Kylee Pena, Product Marketing Manager, Adobe; and Mala Ramakrishnan, Chief Product Offi cer, CuVo.
