FRANCE – French casino operator Vikings Casinos is postponing a renovation project at the Hotel des Thermes in Vittel (Vosges), which should host a casino in mid-2023, until the beginning of the summer, due to the containment to stem the epidemic of coronavirus.

Vikings Managing Director, Luc Le Borgne, unveiled the renovation project on February 29, when the casino concession it has operated since 2007 had just been renewed for 20 years. The cost of the planned investment is €14m to €17m, to redo the Hôtel des Thermes, with local architect Stéphane Deloy to transform the crumbling building into a luxury establishment, of three or four stars. It has been unoccupied for more than 40 years.

The future casino will be housed on the ground floor of the Hotel des Thermes, with a surface area of 1,108sq.m, 100 slot machines, electronic table games and traditional games and a restaurant of 363sq.m. A car park with 68 parking spaces is planned in the basement. Approximately €3.5m has been budgeted to transfer the casino, currently located in the Mercure hotel.

The opening could take place in the spring of 2023, before the Rugby World Cup, with the plan to be able to welcome one of the foreign teams for its preparation.

P16 NEWSWIRE / INTERACTIVE / MARKET DATA

Holland Casino has slammed new measures introduced by the Dutch government as 'irresponsible' having been told it won't be able to reopen its casinos until September 1 at the earliest.

Te gambling sector is one of the few in the Netherlands that has been instructed to keep its doors closed until that date, meaning a six- month closure in total, keeping more than 8,000 employees at home for months.

Suppliers of this sector are also extremely affected by this long closure. In addition, such a long closure now entails great risks, because players now have to seek refuge from illegal activities both on location and online. In recent weeks, the police have had to intervene hard at various locations in the country.

Erwin Lambaart, CEO of Holland Casino, said: “Te long lock hold of the whole sector is in our view irresponsible given our history of providing safe and responsible gaming. It causes

Greentube teams with Playtech in strategic distribution agreement

Austria

Greentube has signed a deal to launch a selection of its online casino content with Playtech. Classic NOVOMATIC titles, adapted for online channels, will soon go live through the aggregator, including Book of Ra deluxe and Lucky Lady’s Charm deluxe, combined with new content from the supplier’s developers and studios. Playtech’s customers will gain access to modern hits including Diamond Link: Mighty Elephant and Cash Connection Charming Lady as part of the deal.

Greentube’s games portfolio will initially be available in Poland, Spain and the UK, extending the supplier’s reach in Europe, as well as in Mexico – a market which is proving to be a powerhouse for online gaming in the Latin American region.

“Joining Playtech’s Games Marketplace creates significant

enormous economic damage to the entire sector. We understand that we should not be the first to open again, but to remain closed for another four months is really unwise and unnecessary. We are ready by 1 June at the latest to be able to open our branches fully responsibly in accordance with government guidelines."

Te amusement arcade sector is in the same position. Frits Huffnagel, Chairman of amusements association VAN Kansspelen, said: “We are very disappointed with the news that the entertainment centers may only open on September 1. Recently, a lot of work has been done on an extensive protocol to open quickly again. In addition, there has been intensive contact with various ministries. It seems like the decision was made based on insufficient knowledge of the sector. Te generosity promised in the press conference is only sufficient if 100 per cent of the costs are reimbursed. We have little confidence that this will also be the offer.”

advantages for both our businesses: Playtech’s customers will get access to our player-favourite titles that have proven to deliver strong results, while we will further accelerate our reach into key strategic markets,” said Michael Bauer, CGO at Greentube. “We believe this step comes at exactly the right time, as more and more European jurisdictions regulate and the Americas promise much room for growth.”

Shimon Akad, Chief Operating Officer at Playtech, said: “We are very proud to have Greentube’s vast collection of both classic and modern interactive content available through our Games Marketplace. Tese games will be a valuable addition to our portfolio, providing our partners with titles that appeal to audiences ranging from traditional land-based players to new online slot fans. Playtech’s scale and distribution is a powerful offering for potential partners, and this is an example of our commitment to partnering with the right companies to bring content to new and growing markets.”
