Staff are now able to use three lifelike silicon livers to illustrate the effects of liver damage and show the three stages a damaged liver goes through. The livers are an accurate size and weight and were created by a company that has produced prosthetics for the Harry Potter series of films.


A new ambulatory emergency care system means that appropriate patients are rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated on the same day, with ongoing clinical care provided on an outpatient basis.


Our new cardiac assessment unit means that cardiology patients requiring admission for investigations or treatment are admitted to the correct ward sooner.


The diabetes and endocrine team have amalgamated our diabetes database, so that both the adult and paediatric teams now use the same system. This will improve the transition for patients when their care switches from the paediatric team to the adult team.
