Priorities for the year ahead

Our priority for 2017/18 is to provide high quality care for our patients while meeting our performance and financial targets. We also have a series of aims and specific quality priorities.

Our aims include:

Delivering Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) initiatives: CQUINs include schemes to prevent ill health, reduce the impact of serious infection, improve emergency department services for people with mental health needs and support safe and proactive discharge

Outpatients: Developing schemes to reduce the number of follow-up appointments needed, reduce the number of missed appointments and, where appropriate, provide alternatives to unnecessary hospital attendance

Theatres: Ensuring our operating theatres are used to their maximum capacity by changing booking processes, reviewing the reasons for lost theatre time and improving pre-operative assessment

Non-elective programme: Working with our partners to improve how we admit, treat and discharge patients who come to our hospitals through our emergency departments

Other aims include reducing our costs and working towards the digitalisation of our medical records.

Our quality priorities include:

Reducing unnecessary bed moves for non-clinical reasons and the number of patients cared for as outliers

Implementing the national maternity programme for safer maternity care

Improving responsiveness to patient experience

Improving the quality and timeliness of discharge

and Compassion

Dr Matt Inada-Kim, a consultant in acute medicine at our Trust, is playing a key role in improving how sepsis is managed across the country after being appointed as the national clinical sepsis advisor.

“It’s a dream job for me and I’m very grateful to

the Trust and my colleagues for supporting me to improve

the identification and treatment of sepsis both locally and nationally.”
