Innovation at Hampshire Hospitals


As part of our drive to improve patient experience and ease the pressure on our emergency departments, we are constantly looking at new ways to improve the ways we admit and discharge patients.


Many wards now have dedicated patient flow facilitators, who work to ensure that patients are discharged earlier in the day, freeing up beds that can be used by patients who need to be admitted from our emergency departments.


They also act as a link between departments and specialities across the Trust to make sure that, wherever possible, patients are admitted to the ward where they can receive the most appropriate care.


“It’s so important that patients get sent to the right wards and departments to receive the treatment that they need. By getting patients to the place where they can get the treatment


they need, we play a part in shortening the time they have to spend in hospital.


It really feels like I am making a difference to patients coming through the front door to the emergency department each day. It can be easy to get isolated in your own corner of the hospital and forget about what is happening elsewhere. Having me as a link to the wider hospital helps people on the ward to see the bigger picture as well.
