Care and compassion


We have developed specialist midwifery clinics for breastfeeding, offering specialist midwifery support and frenulotomy services across all three of our hospitals.


New equipment donated by Anna’s Challenge means that children and young people with cystic fibrosis can carry out intensive chest physiotherapy programmes at home with supervision from their parents.


An elastography service now running in our ultrasound departments has reduced the number of liver biopsies needed by our patients.


With funds raised through The Magic Wand Appeal, improvements have been made to the patient bathroom, parents’ coffee room and breastfeeding room on Northbrook Ward at Winchester.


The elderly care team has joined together with the Frailty Network and ECIP to support the development of a frailty pathway. The pathway will ensure frail elderly people admitted to hospital are seen and treated more quickly.


Safe


We have established a delirium team to reduce the number of patients experiencing delirium while in our hospitals. The introduction of Team Delirium raised awareness of the condition among staff and visitors and introduced actions that could be taken to avoid it happening.


We tested our Major Incident Plan by responding to a mock emergency alongside colleagues from Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue and other local authorities. The exercise also tested decision-making at all command levels.


A successful funding application to the Department of Health has enabled us to install foetal central monitoring systems at all three of our hospitals.


Our pressure ulcer elimination programme has led to a significant reduction in hospital acquired pressure ulcers, with grade two pressure ulcers falling by 30% and grade three pressure ulcers falling by 70%.
