Our local contribution
As one of the largest employers in the area, we take our responsibility to the local community seriously.
We work closely with our local community of schools, colleges and third sector partners such as the Princes’ Trust to provide work experience placements for local students, traineeship programmes (designed to provide the essential work preparation needed to secure an apprenticeship or employment) and apprenticeships.
In 2016/17, requests for work experience continued to rise and the programme also won a national Gold Standard award. This recognises our passion to support our local communities, in particular our young unemployed groups, to move into meaningful work by providing their first stepping stone.
We also provide work placements and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities. We have become the lead trust for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight on an initiative to increase the employment of individuals with learning disabilities within our region and the wider NHS, working in partnership with NHS England.
We continue to support service leavers, reservists, veterans and their spouses through our military engagement programme, Step into Health. In recognition of our efforts, we were awarded the prestigious Ministry of Defence Employers Recognition Silver Award.
Our Trust received the royal seal of approval when Prince William paid us a visit to hear about some of the successes of the Step into Health programme.
We were one of the first Trusts to sign up to the programme and The Duke of Cambridge visited Basingstoke hospital to meet servicemen and women preparing for life after the forces by attending an information day about Step into Health run by our Trust, as well as speaking with veterans who came through the scheme.
