Who we are and what we do
Patient care is at the heart of what we do. We are currently rated ‘Good’ overall and ‘Outstanding’ for care and end of life care by the Care Quality Commission. We provide hospital services to around 570,000 people living in Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire, and specialist services to patients from all over the country.
We deliver a full range of district hospital services in a variety of locations. Our acute services are provided from Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. We also offer an extensive range of services at Andover War Memorial Hospital, including surgery, elderly rehabilitation and maternity care. In addition to the services delivered in our hospitals, we provide outpatient and therapy services at Alton Community Hospital, The Chase Hospital, Bordon, in community settings and in patients’ homes.
We also offer some specialist services. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare abdominal cancer, and we are national leaders in the surgical treatment of liver and colorectal cancer. We pioneered intraoperative radiotherapy for breast cancer and run a regional haemophilia networked service that serves Hampshire, Dorset, Sussex and Wiltshire.
Private patient facilities are available in our Candover Clinic and Suite, which is managed by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Unlike most private healthcare, patients using the Candover Clinic are investing in our NHS services to benefit NHS patients.
We employ more than 6,000 staff and our turnover in 2016/17 was £385.4million.
As a foundation trust, we are accountable to our local community through a system of local ownership, with 15,000 public and staff members and 25 governors. We are licenced and regulated by NHS Improvement and the Care Quality Commission.
We benefit from fundraising support from many local charities, including our own North Hampshire Medical Fund, The Friends of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital Winchester and the Friends of Andover War Memorial Hospital.
