Our governors

Governors are representatives of our members and play a vital role in ensuring the Trust is accountable directly to the membership and to the community.

We have 15 public governors, who are elected by the membership in their constituency. We have five staff governors, elected by the staff groups they represent. We have two governors appointed from partner organisations and we have three appointed governors who represent older people, younger people and disabled people.

We held our most recent governor elections in November 2016 and welcomed new governors to our Council of Governors in January 2017. Governors serve a three-year term and can be re-elected.

Our governors help us develop services by taking part in a number of working groups. The Membership and Community Engagement Group looks at ways to engage members and reach new people. The Patient and Public Involvement in Research Group supports and promotes research in the Trust. The Patient Experience Group focuses specifically on patient care and makes visits to all our sites to see the quality of care being provided. All of these groups feed back to the Council of Governors.

Council of Governors meetings are held in public. Members and the public are welcome to attend and there is an opportunity to meet governors after the meeting.

Governor profiles and details of the Council of Governors can be found at www.hampshirehospitals.nhs.uk/governors

“As governors, we are proud to represent our members’ views.

We held a number of public events during the year and welcomed many new members.

“Membership is free and open to all. We hope to meet many

of you in the coming year to get your suggestions and advice, especially about the Trust’s plans for the future.

“I also want to let you know

how wonderfully Trust staff have responded to the very difficult

situation experienced throughout the NHS during the last year.

Maurice Alston, lead governor and governor for the rest of England
