Rewarding, developing and


caring for our staff 2,716 WOW! nominations were received during 2016 for staff who impressed patients, visitors and colleagues by going the extra mile.


WOW! winners are invited to a special lunch with our Board and governors and an annual gala. The celebration events are to say thank you to all our WOW! winners.


Every summer we hold our Director of Nursing Awards to recognise the outstanding care and dedication provided by our nurses, midwives and therapists. We received 317 nominations from the public for the 2016 awards and the winners were selected by our public governors.


We offer staff a variety of support programmes including Schwartz Centre Rounds®, where staff come together to talk about the challenges and experiences of working in a demanding environment, clinical supervision, which are conversations to explore the impact our actions have, and individual team coaching.


WOW! annual gala


Chairman’s Award Nick Maich and Hazel Horsnell were named joint winners of the Chairman’s special award for demonstrating our CARE values in their work.


Midwife Hazel ensured that an anxious patient was able to get the treatment she needed, arranging for her husband and newborn baby to stay on the ward with her. Nick, the orthopaedic and surgical site lead at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, went the extra mile to help an elderly couple who had both been admitted but could not be placed on the same ward, passing on a number of notes, including one from the husband which simply said “I love you”.
