are the ‘Singletons Super Valu ‘B’ Orme Shield’ champions following their win over Douglas ‘A’ at Douglas snooker club last weekend. This means that
the
Orme Shield and the ‘B’ version are now housed at the ‘Market House’ the home of the East Cork club. The
tournament saw
eight three person teams go in search of the prestig- ious title won last year by the Crucible side and im- mediately the Crucible ‘A’ side looked very strong in their opening match were they saw off a very strong looking Youghal CYMS ‘A’ in their opening game and the hopes of retaining the title were alive. Meanwhile the Youghal CYMS ‘B’ side were up against the Crucible ‘B’ side and this was a great game going all the way to the final table, but it was the Youghal
boys who
came out on top, booking a semi-final match against the defending champions. In the other half of the
quarter final draw, the hosts Douglas had two teams who were looking to win this tournament for the very first time. Thier opponent in both were
games Shooters
snooker club in Black- pool and the exceptional numbers of young players
coming through the club is a fair indication that the club are going way and above the required commitments to young snooker and it will in time pay dividends, but not last weekend where the Doug- las ‘A’ side were too strong for Shooters ‘B’ , but all credit to the Shooters ‘B’ side who made it through to take on Douglas ‘A’ in the semi-final. So with the event r eally poised brilliantly it was dif- ficult to see who was going to progress through to the decide and at this point of proceedings the Crucible ‘A’ and Douglas
‘A’ were
certainly favourites to pro- gress, but team snooker is a funny animal and the pressure of team play can sometimes throw up some funny results. Douglas ‘A’ continued to qualities with
show their
some very solid snooker. Douglas ‘A’ met Shooters A’’ in the last four and Douglas ‘A’ came out on top winning 2 matches to nil thanks to the nerves of Ivan Glavin to get them across the line in a fantas- tic game and the host club were just match away from a maiden victory in the ‘Singletons’ Orme Shield. I suppose the story of
the day was the win for Youghal CYMS ‘B’ in their semi-final match against the defending champions the Crucible ‘A’. Youghal’s Ryan Tobin, Adam Bulman and Conor
spired snooker and in the end it was Adam Bulman who secured the victory for the east Cork club who had to face the hosts in the decider. It was a cracking final with both sides playing exceptional snooker and it was a real battle of nerves with so much at stake. Karl Busteed was in
great form securing a win- ning match for Douglas when he beat Conor Ken- nedy by three frames to nil. Youghal levelled the fi-
nal through Ryan Tobin who beat Gavin Buckley by three
frames to one
frame and the whole tour- nament was left to be de- cided by Adam Bulman from Youghal and Ivan Glavin from Douglas. It was these two players
who carried on heroics in their respective semi-final’s to get their teams over the line into the decider. Bulman
was inspired
taking a quick two frame to nil lead, meaning Glavin needed to win all three re- maining frames in this best of five frame decider. Glavin pushed hard, but
all credit to the Youghal man Adam Bulman had enough to see the ‘Single- tons Super Valu ‘B’ Orme Shield’ join the ‘A’ Orme Shield in Youghal with a great winning frame of snooker. Now the ‘Cork Billiards and Snooker Association’ (CBSA) tournaments take a well deserved Christmas

break and play will resume in January as the sides pre- pare themselves for the ‘Macau Munster Snook- er Club Championships’ in Killarney on the 20th of January, but there will be Cork snooker action before then to keep the 15 Cork sides well tuned ahead of the
Munster’s
and the All Ireland snook- er club championships.,

the ‘B’ Shield now over. We still have the Cork Close events and Killarney coming up, which we all love and the ‘A’ Shield will be in Youghal later next year, so far so good and we are all looking forward to playing snooker and bil- liards in 2017’.

NOEL Landers has booked his seat on the flight to Cyprus in March in both the ‘European Bil- liards and Snooker Asso- ciation’ (EBSA) European U21 and U18 tournaments in Nicosia following some very consistent snooker at the ‘Republic of Ireland Billiards and Snooker As- sociation’ (RIBSA) head- quarters in Carlow at the ‘Ivy Rooms’ where he won the fourth and final U18 ‘National Ranking’ event qualifier. This means that
four
Cork men will make the journey to Cyprus, Aar- on Hill from the Crucible and two fellow club mates of Landers, with Adam Fitzgerald and Ross Bul- man from Youghal CYMS already qualified. Cork under age snooker
is at an all time high with both Bulman and Hill holding National titles as well as multi final com- petitors Fitzgerald
and
Landers in the mix and it isn’t unrealistic to hope that one of these great young talents could lift a European title
someday
soon and Cyprus could be just the place that could happen. Landers has had his of disappointment
share
in recent years, but the talented Youghal cue-man has all the credentials and the
game should things
go his way and there is no doubt that he is really look- ing forward to going to Cy- prus, in fact he cannot wait to get out to represent his country once again. In the quarter final Landers defeated Darragh

Cusack by three frames to nil with a top class display of snooker, in the semi-fi- nal he again was in top class form defeating Luke Bateman by three frames to nil and in the final he defeated Mark Gleeson by three frames to one frame to secure victory and the fact that Landers only dropped one frame in the finals was testament to the high standard the Youghal man is producing at the moment
and the U18
ranking event and those vital ranking qualification points were enough to see Landers on the plane for the 2017 EBSA European snooker championships, where he will play in the U21 championship too. Noel Landers also made
it through to the final of the most recent RIBSA U21 event which earned him the valuable ranking points he needed in that category, performing at an extremely high level throughout the event. There is no doubt that
Landers will have the full support of his family and relations and most impor- tantly his parents when the trip to Cyprus comes in March and now with the added support of the RIBSA National Coach PJ Nolan and the support of the RIBSA family, watch this space, because I think that this young man if on song and gets the run of the balls that every player needs, could go very well in that tournament.
