Cork East Receive €123,500 in Rural Development Funding – David Stanton

East and Minister of State at the Department of Jus- tice, David Stanton has welcomed confirmation this week of a total of €123,500 funding for ru- ral development projects in Cork East consituency. Funding of €83,500 has been allocated
to initia-
tives in East and North Cork under the CLAR programme and €40,000 under the REDZ pro- gramme.
“CLÁR is an investment
programme that aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural have
communities experienced
signif-
icant depopulation. The programme had been ef- fectively closed for new applications since 2009, but was reopened by Min- ister of State for Regional Economic Development Michael Ring TD on the

“A number of schools and community groups based in my constituency of Cork East applied for and were awarded fund- ing for road improvement and safety measures”, said Minister Stanton “Inch NS secured €24,000 for road improve- ments, footpaths and set down areas outside the school and Curraglass NS and Conna NS received €7,500 each for speed safety signs outside the schools. Zone) Programme funding was also announced this week and I was pleased that €40,000 has been al- located to undertake a fea- sibility study of the North Cork Blueway in the Fer- moy and Mitchelstown area.

Cork East District Executive Fine Gael Annual General meeting of above took place in “My
Place Community Hall” Mill road, on Monday 28 No- vember and was very well attended Councillors Susan McCarthy, Michael Hegarty and Minister David Stanton were also present. In the absences of the Chairperson, Helen Joyce, Vice Chair, chaired the meeting and at the outset a minutes silence and prayers said for all Fine Gael Members and local people who were called to their Eter- nal Reward since the last meeting prior to the Election. Yvonne McEvoy read minutes of last year’s AGM and Joe Wall, Treasurer gave a detailed Financial Report. Congratulations from all present were extended to Dep- uty David Stanton on his elevation to Ministerial Post in the Department of Justice. Councillors McCarthy and Hegarty both advised those interested to avail of the op- portunity to view the draft plan of local areas and both answered questions re local matters. Nuala Murphy and Kathleen Woulfe paid tribute to both councillors who were working hard on behalf of their constitutes. Michael Connors asked about the super draw tickets – draw to be held on the 8 December and tickets to be returned sold hopefully by the 4 December. Minister Stanton thanked all who worked tirelessly for him for the election canvassing, phone calls and especial- ly on Election Day in shocking weather. He spoke of the Housing Bill in Dail this week, Traffic a huge problem, Health Issues always a problem, Tourism very good and Brexit was causing major upset, as is the American Pres- idency. Many other serious issues were discussed before the election of officers which was chaired by Constituen- cy Chairman Michael Connors. Chamber of Commerce launched their Christmas shop local campaign last Wednesday, 7 December. The Chamber would like the people of Midle-
ton and the area to keep an eye out for the signs near the town’s multitude or shops and retailers, and would like to encourage everybody to keep money and jobs in the locality.

Friends of Midleton Hospital Meeting of above was held in the Laundry Room and
Chairperson Carmel McDonough presided. Present were committee members, Mary Woods, Maura Milton, Olive Williams, Mairead Davis, Edmond Bailey, Mary Troy, Nuala Murphy and Kathleen Woulfe. Minutes were read by Mary Woods, Secretary and were signed adopted and approved. Maura Milton gave a de- tailed treasurers report. Carmel Spoke of the apprecia- tion of acting Matron Teresa Galvin to the friends for the recent very important items for the comfort of the resi- dents – special beds and chairs and 2 pianos for their en- joyment. Christmas gifts for residents was also discussed – Maura and Carmel to purchase same. Forthcoming coffee morning on the 8 December dis- cussed at length – Raffle will be held and active retire- ment choir will sing Christmas songs to add to the sea- sonal spirit and chairperson asks for your kind support on the day.
