WHAT’S NEW? Christmas Kids Party There was fantastic

fun at the club on Sun- day morning for the kids Christmas party. Jo-Anne, Michael and all the other helpers organised great ac- tivities on the courts. Well done also to the Junior Committee! The kids all joined in the fun and didn’t seem to feel the cold as they ran around for 2 hours playing games. The parents weren’t as brave, they stayed in the warmth of the club-house drinking tea and tucking into the goodies supplied. We collected a lot

of

gifts under the tree, thanks to everybody who contrib- uted. These gifts will real- ly be appreciated by those who receive them, Jo-Anne will be handing them over

to the chosen charity this week

Tennis 10’s Tennis 10’s is a calen-

dar of events for players participating in their club coaching programmes. It is aimed at players who are looking for an introduction to competition in a friend- ly environment. It is very important that

all club players support these events as our sport needs

more appropriate

competition of this nature. Almost all of the events were over subscribed last year and demand is high. The

schedule for the

year is available on our Facebook page or if you

are interested you can con- tact Conor O’Callaghan, Munster Regional Devel- opment Officer directly. He will add you to his cir- culation lost.

Midleton Hockey Club News

Men’s hockey: Catholic Institute 4 Midleton 1 The biggest match of

the season came on Sat- urday December 3rd

. The

team travelled to Limer- ick to play Catholic Insti- tute in the Irish Challenge Cup quarter final. Due to circumstances beyond our control we lost 4 of our main players to travel to the match. With confi- dence high after a previ- ous 2-2 draw in the league against the same team, we felt

again progressing

the chance of once to

the

final was in our grasp. The mid day game

kicked off and within 2 minutes Midleton captain and forward Eric Callen- der got a gift of a pass at the top of the circle and hit an unstoppable shot into the net. Soon after there was chances for Conor McCormack and Ciaran

McGregor but a strong opposition keeper kept the score at bay. The game was a tough physical exchange with hard tackles going in and the odd off the ball incident. As the first half was coming to an end In- stitute were awarded a goal wrongfully as the ball was struck off their own at- tackers leg but due to both umpires unable to see the incident they gave the goal. This brought it to 1-1 as the half time whistle blew. The team welcomed the break as it was a fast paced game with high stakes. Between captain Eric and Coach Clive Seale words of en- couragement were given to the team to keep fighting until the end. Once again Midleton came out fight- ing with tough challenges and cards for both teams. However Institute were the first to break the deadlock in the second half with

a drag flick into the net. Midleton knew this wasn’t the end as they are a team with great heart who will keep going right to the last minute. With chanc- es for the team becoming less frequent it seemed a more experienced Institute team were getting the up- per hand. Soon after they took their lead out another goal to put them in a safe position two goals ahead. With saves from the Insti- tute keeper again denying Midleton the close

chance to the gap the battle

back was becoming more of an uphill challenge. As the game was coming to an end Clive put on some of the younger members of the team so they could experience playing in such a big national game. As the final whistle blew the hearts of the team sank. After making it to the final last year to drop out in the quarter final this year was hard to take. Altogether the team should have been very proud of their per- formance. Next year will

be the year. Wish to take the chance to thank the supporters who traveled to Limerick to shout encour- agement to the squad. Squad L.Mariga, A.Le-

vis, M.Deane, S.Casey, H.Compton, J.Jeffery, J.Deane, A.Sheehy, E.Cal- lender, C.McCormack, C.McGregor, J.Drennan, R.Moore, A.Beamish Coach Clive Seale Next up Midleton will

play under lights once more on Tuesday 6th December against

of Ban-

don. Then Next Sunday they will once again play Bandon in the Cork Cup. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming matches. Also we

wish

Tiernan McCarthy and Conor McCormack the best of luck with their un- derage Irish Trials.

Mens Division 3 Midleton B played Ban- don B in the league last Sunday. Midleton had a rocky start going 1-0 down after Bandon scored from

a short corner after ten minutes but the lads re- plied with a striking piece of play which saw them equalising after 5 passes and finished off by Harry Compton. Harry Cremin controlled the midfield and distributed the

ball

very well out to the wings and another fine move was eventually finished off by Jack Winkworth leaving us 2-1 up at half time Ban- don came back very strong in the 2nd

half but our de-

fence stood firm to hold them out. It was a passionate per-

formance from our young players and they enjoyed their 2-1 victory .Well done lads on a great per- formance and look for-

ward to playing UCC in a cup game next Sunday at home.

Hockey Blitz boys under 10 - Saturday 26th November. Midleton under 10 boys had amazing success in their first hockey blitz of the season on Saturday 26th November. Each member of the team gave it all, with nearly all 8 boys scoring at least one goal. This truly showed the work ethic of each member of the team on the day. Midleton1 first match was against Asht- on2 and they beat Ashton with a score of 7-0. Next match was against Ban- don and they continued

their winning streak with a score of 4-0. Next up was against Church of Ire- land and again Midleton won 1-0 and they finished off their unbeaten record against Waterford 2-0.
