East Ferry Rowing Club Annual Pantomime Raises Money for Midleton Suicide Prevention Group
by ALAN SHEEHAN and ANDREA
CUNNINGHAM The first show of the
club’s pantomime—this year’s production being Snow White—was held on Thursday, 1 December, with the final of the four
shows being a matinee on Sunday, 4 December. “It was a great weekend,”
said Kate Deady, Secretary of East Ferry Rowing Club. “Sunday’s show was a sell- out. They were all great nights, but Sunday was fan- tastic. That last show was just fantastic.
Great response from
across the locale and Mid- leton. We’d like to thank everyone who supported us and all our sponsors, espe- cially East Ferry Farms.” The Saturday night show
has provided the East Ferry Rowing Club with a yearly opportunity to raise money
for charity, with this year’s chosen organisation being the Let’s Get Together sui- cide prevention group. “On Saturday night the
panto raised money from a raffle to give to charity,” said Mrs Deady. “We chose the Let’s Get Together Founda- tion, and raised €300 on the
Saturday. We pre- sented the money to Pat Buckley [Sinn Féin
TD and founder of the Let’s Get Together Foun- dation] on the Sunday. We chose the charity because in the last four months the rowing community has lost two members to suicide, from Blackrock and Passage West Rowing Clubs. It kin- da hit home with the kids,
the teenagers here, so we raised money for the group on the Saturday.” The club’s members are
still in a charitable mood heading into Christmas. “On Sunday coming our teenagers are helping out in the Aghada Senior Citi- zens’ Christmas Party in the Aghada Community Hall. They’ll have a dinner and a dance, and for the last three years our teenagers have gone there and helped out.” “We’re in contact with

Helping Hands Homeless Action Group in Cork,” said Mrs Deady, “about doing a collection for them; stuff like tinned food, hats, scarves, gloves, runners, sleeping bags and so on. Hopefully in two weeks we can take what we’ve collect- ed up to Cork and donate it. Afterwards then, in Jan- uary, we’re looking to help them out with soup runs. It’s like a life lesson for all of us, and to try and help the homeless.”
