Cuba is a country of amazing landscapes and great history. On this tour we cycle along beach-fringed coastlines, and through mountain ranges and dense, green tropical scenery. En route we visit colonial towns, including Baracoa in the far east, and historic sites such as the Bay of Pigs and the Che Guevara Monument. We also spend time in the lively capital Havana.
15 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Tour starts Havana. Day 2 Bay of Pigs Warm up ride to Playa Larga and Cueva de los Peces. Later we drive, via the Bay of Pigs, to Cienfuegos for a walking tour of the town. Days 3/4 Trinidad Cycle along the Caribbean coast to Trinidad. Walking tour of the old town. Optional ride to Ancon Peninsula. Day 5 Sancti Spiritus Cycle along the ‘Valley of the Sugar Mills’ to Manaca Iznaga, where we visit the infamous slave watch tower, before continuing to Sancti Spiritus. Drive to Camaguey. Day 6 Marea de Portillo Drive to Granma Province. Cycle through the foothills of the Sierra Maestra to Marea de Portillo. Day 7 Sierra Maestra Mountains Today we cycle along the coast and southern slopes of the Sierra Maestra Mountains, to Chivirico. Transfer to Santiago. Day 8 Santiago Tour of the town. Optional ride to Santiago Bay

lighthouse. Days 9/10 Baracoa Drive to Imias village via Guantanamo. Cycle through the eastern mountain ranges along the famous ‘La Farola’ road to Baracoa. Optional ride to the mouth of the Yumuri River. Day 11 Alexander Humboldt National Park Today we cycle along the eastern coast, past the tropical Alexander Humboldt National Park. Transfer to Holguin. Day 12 Moron Cycling north we head back towards the coast, close to Puerto Padre, before driving on to Moron. Day 13 Santa Clara Cycle to Yaguajay. Transfer to Santa Clara visiting the colonial town of Remedios en route. Day 14 Havana Visit Che Guevara’s Memorial before driving to the capital Havana. Walking tour of the historic city. Day 15 Tour ends Havana.

Accommodation: 14 nights hotels. Meals: 14 breakfasts are included. Tour staff: Explore Tour Leader cycles with the group on each day (except some optional rides); support staff and drivers. Our bus acts as vehicle back-up whilst cycling. Included Bike: We provide 24 gear Conor City 350 hybrid bikes with front suspension – see tour notes for details. Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle 715 km over twelve days (an average of 60 km per day). Three of the cycling days are circular and unaccompanied and therefore optional. The terrain is often undulating, and on tarmac, although this can be in poor conditions in places. There is also the occasional steep climb. A support vehicle is available throughout the tour except on optional rides. We have graded the route as moderate to challenging. Group size: Generally 12 to 16.
