On this off the beaten track short break, we cycle through the scenic mountain passes, remote Berber villages and fertile valleys of the Central High Atlas. We cycle uphill reaching the high Plateau of Tighsa (1750m) before cycling through the Bougmez Valley, known as “Happy Valley”, where lush orchards and green pastures are surrounded by snow capped mountains. We then cycle to Tizi n’ Tirghist (2630m) through tiny picturesque villages built with mud bricks and stay at a village house where we experience the Berber hospitality. We fi nally traverse the Northern slopes of Mt Touksine and cycle through forested land before ending our bike ride at the foot of Cathedrale Mountain.
5 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Marrakech. Day 2 Bougmez Drive to the Central High Atlas. Cycle uphill from Ait Abbas (1480m) to Tighsa plateau (1750m) and traverse the pictoresque Bougmez Valley. Day 3 Zaouia Ahanesal Cycle through valleys and villages before the long ascent to Tizi n’Tirghist (2630m). Descend through pastures to reach Oussamsouk, at the foot of Mount Azourki. Cycle to the Tizi n’Ilissi Pass (2590m) in the afternoon.

Day 4 Cathedrale Cycle through the Ahanesal valley, then along the slopes of Mt Touksine and through forest up to two mountain passes (2000m). Descent to the Ahanesal river at the foot of Cathedrale Mountain. Transfer by car to Marrakech. Day 5 Tour ends Marrakech.

Accommodation: 2 nights standard hotels, 2 nights basic local house. Meals: 4 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners are included. Tour staff: Explore Tour Leader cycles with the group every day. Included Bike: We provide 21 gear Stockli XC front suspension mountain bikes – see trip notes for details. Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle approximately 134 km over 3 days. Over 50% of the cycling is off-road with a mixture of dirt roads and gravel tracks with some long fast descents on surfaces that require experience and care. The climbs include long ascents over both tarmac and off-road passes, up to 2600m altitude. A 4WD support vehicle accompanies the tour in full, providing transfers between cycling points and carrying luggage. Group size: Generally 10 to 12.
