Accommodation: 5 nights standard hotels, 1 night simple monastery and 1 night simple ethno village. Meals: 7 breakfasts and 1 dinner are included. Tour staff: Explore Tour Leader plus driver(s). Included Bike: We provide Polar or Mirage 21 speed bikes – see tour notes for details. Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle 255 km over fi ve days (an average of 51 km a day). We mainly use quiet, undulating roads although there will be several steeper sections on tarmac. A support vehicle escorts this trip throughout. We have graded this route as moderate. Enjoy traditional Balkan fare and warm, friendly hospitality as we cycle through Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina’s unspoilt countryside and timeless villages. Traverse beautiful landscapes of dramatic mountains and pretty rivers. We also stay in a monastery and an ethnic village for an unique insight into the local culture.
8 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Virpazar (Montenegro). Day 2 Virpazar This morning enjoy a short cycle ride to neighbouring villages to sample local wines. Pedal through typical Mediterranean scenery with views of Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans. Travel by bus into Bosnia to Sarajevo. Day 3 Sarajevo Cycle around the surrounding areas. Free afternoon to explore the capital, often called the ‘Jerusalem of Europe’ due to its rich history of religious and cultural variety. Day 4 Mount Jahorina Transfer to Pale, located on the slopes of Mount Jahorina. Cycle through the mountain scenery of Jahorina passing through forests, farmlands and small villages to reach Gorazde. Day 5
Izlazak ethno village Cycle along the Drina River passing through Ustikolina and Brod heading towards the Durmitor Massif in Montenegro. Stay overnight in an ethno village. Day 6 Ostrog Monastery Ride through alpine scenery and descend towards Niksic to reach the Ostrog Monastery, dramatically located on a mountain cliff, where we spend the night. Day 7 Zeta River Valley Cycle along the slopes of the Prekornica Mountain following the Zeta River Valley. Slowly descend towards Virpazar, on the shores of the Skadar Lake. Day 8 Tour ends Virpazar.
