Cycling through the backroads, tropical coastline and cultural highlights of Cambodia
Cambodia is a well kept secret that offers the visitor much more than the world-renowned jungle temples of Angkor. Join us on this cycle holiday along an unspoilt tropical coastline, through rural backroads and deep into the interior. Along the way we visit the vibrant capital Phnom Penh, national parks, brilliant beaches and the fl oating villages of Tonle Sap Lake. We end our journey deep in the jungle of Angkor exploring temples of the once mighty Khmer empire.
14 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour in Phnom Penh. Afternoon visit to Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum. Day 2 Colonial Kep Visit Toul Sleng Museum and the Killing Fields. Cycle via Tonle Bati to Ang Tasom. Continue by bus to the old French colonial seaside town of Kep. Day 3 Rabbit Island Morning visit to the idyllic and little developed Rabbit Island. We continue by bike past pepper and tropical fruit plantations to Kampot, a relaxed riverside town in a stunning setting. Day 4 Sihanoukville Cycle along a good tarmac road with coastal and countryside scenes to the brilliant beaches of Sihanoukville. Day 5 Ream National Park A free day without bikes to relax on the beach or enjoy a boat trip to the marine reserve of Ream. Day 6 Chambok Ecotourism We follow rolling dirt roads through the dense forest of Kiriom National Park, trek to a 40m high waterfall and have the chance to see wild animals, exotic birds and interact with local farmers in a community based tourism project. Overnight in Phnom Penh. Day 7 Ancient Capital Oudong We bus to the abandoned Royal City of Oudong, explore the old temples and stupas before cycling northwest to Kompong Chhang. Day 8 Floating Village Cycle dirt tracks to Kompong Luong, a fl oating village on Tonle Sap lake perfectly adapted to living on the water. Continue to Battambang for two nights. Day 9 Bamboo Train Ride past rice

paddies, ancient temples overlooking the plains and see the bamboo train, a village invention. Day 10 Banteay Chhmar We drive to Sisphon and then cycle unpaved roads past villages to this ancient temple complex that once rivalled Angkor for grandeur but has suffered from repeated Thai looting. Continue to Siem Reap. Days 11/13 Temples of Angkor We explore the temple cities by bus and bike, built in the 9th century by Khmer kings. Visit the Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles to interact and chance to buy beautiful woven textiles. Day 14 Tour ends Siem Reap.

Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle approximately 611 km over ten days (an average of 61 km per day) with further optional rides available. Our route mainly follows quiet and fl at back-roads and paths, 85% tarmac 15% gravel and dirt tracks. Day 6 is slightly hilly. A support vehicle will accompany the rides. We have graded this route as moderate. Group size: Generally 10 to 16.
