Song and Dance Factory have developed a successful brand of pre-school children’s education, offering extra-curricular activities throughout nurseries, primary schools and private classes.


First introduced to our screens in the Channel 4 Television series, “Musicality”, Adele Rankin, is without a doubt, one of the UK’s brightest theatrical performers.


Adele has many years’ experience working alongside the creators of hit children’s television programmes such as ‘The Tweenies’, ‘Jim Jam & Sunny’ and ‘Fun Song Factory’, and in 2008 Adele launched the Song and Dance Factory, which has now developed into a successful brand.


Adele believes that all children can benefit in some way from the performing arts. While some build a firm foundation for a professional performance career, others unlock their hidden talents, overcome their shyness or increase their confidence and social skills. Most importantly, children have fun through drama, singing and dance classes, while making new friends.


All classes are created to compliment the ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ and are taught by professionally qualified teachers.


The new build Woodlands Children’s Day Nursery at The Butts in Houston is ideally situated within a wooded rural setting with good vehicle access and ample car parking provision.


The building is a modern, well insulated, energy efficient structure where CO2 emissions have been reduced to a minimum and the design principles adopted provide substantial natural daylight and space quality.


Low level windows allow panoramic viewing for children of all ages into the natural beauty of the wooded surroundings.


Hot water under floor heating pipework from 2-No external air source heat pumps provide wall free areas and lighting provision is low energy.


High frequency lamps operate from body heat sensors and the fire alarm system incorporates ceiling detector heads in all rooms wired to sounders.


Within the main central core of the building there is a platform lift and stairs providing access to an upper level. On this level are located separate management offices and staff accommodation, along with a small kitchen and toilet provision.


Overall accommodation comprises play rooms, children’s toilets, quiet rooms, baby rooms, baby change room and sleep rooms most of which have direct access onto various outdoor play areas within this stunning landscape.


Kitchen and laundry areas complete the facilities all of which are fully accessible for disabled children and staff.


Duchal Nursery School


On the last day of the Easter Term we had an Easter picnic celebrating Estella’s 5th birthday and Stirling’s 4th birthday. After this the children sang their Easter songs to the Easter Bunny who had surprised them by arriving at the window! The children then had great fun finding the eggs that the Easter bunny had hidden for them in the Nursery garden.


We look forward to a very busy Summer Term including our trip to Harry’s railway in his garden at Quarriers. We are also very excited about our Summer Outing to Edinburgh Zoo where we will have a special viewing of the Pandas. We hope that the weather will be kind for the Kilmacolm Show where we will have a Duchal Stall with home baking/produce for sale, games for the children and face painting.


Duchal Nursery School has provided an excellent pre school education to the children of Kilmacolm and the surrounding area since 1967. Established by a group of parents who had no nursery provision for their children, it continues as a ‘parents co-operative’, so it is run by the people who know what is best for their children - their parents.
