The Beacon Arts Centre
Opening in autumn 2012, this will be one of the finest new arts venues in the UK. The Beacon is the replacement for the Greenock Arts Guild Theatre which has served the community of Inverclyde well, for 65 years.
The Beacon is currently under construction at Customhouse Quay in Greenock and will overlook the River Clyde estuary towards the hills of Argyll and Dunbartonshire. There can be few theatres in the country which will enjoy such a spectacular location.
The Beacon will have 2 performing spaces, together with a café/bar and 3 large rehearsal rooms which can be extended to provide a function suite for up to 170 guests. The new building will use cutting-edge theatre technology as well as providing wi-fi, online bookings and infrastructure for live television broadcasts.
The main stage of the Beacon will be one of the largest in Scotland. It will come fully equipped including a full height fly tower with counterweight system, two trap doors, retractable orchestra pit and generous wing space. The theatre can accommodate over 500 patrons on three levels.
Our studio will seat 130 people on retractable bleacher seating and is adaptable as a black box space, which can be used end stage, in the round, cabaret etc.
The Beacon will be a significant new addition to the Scottish theatre and arts scene and will become a venue of choice for touring productions as well as being a vibrant hub for the local community theatre groups within the area.
