TV Tech

Never one to be behind the times Sky TV are adding to their existing methods of home viewing. Already available is Sky Go, which makes accessing programmes easier as they can be viewed live on laptops, tablets, ipads, iphones, computers and games consoles.
The live channels available for you to watch for free on Sky Player correspond to the channels that are part of your Sky TV subscription eg if your package includes Sky 1 then those programmes are available for you to view live or can be accessed 30 days after being screened on Sky TV. Other programmes are available to rent, such as movies from Box Office, or to buy from a back catalogue so you can download content onto your laptop to watch later.
All Sky TV customers can watch Sky News live on Sky Go. People with Multiroom or Broadband Unlimited can watch up to 31 channels, including all 5 Sky Sports channels, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Movies Premiere and Sky Living, live online.
Non Sky TV subscribers can also use Sky Go for a monthly subscription, minimum contract is one month and single episodes can be rented or bought with no further commitment.
Using Sky Go means you can let the kids watch a movie on the laptop while you chill out watching Corrie!
Look out for next month’s issue in which we will cover more aspects of Sky TV’s move into tv on the go. For more information on all things tv please call Clare or Kenny of Millennium Group on 01294 465478, we’re only too happy to help.
Kilmacolm Camera Club
With the advent of milder weather, members went out and about the centre of Kilmacolm for an evening’s practical session on low-light photography – a useful exercise for sharing information on this technique. So, if you happened to walk by the Old Kirk graveyard and spot some strange five- legged creatures, don’t blame it on the malt whisky, it was just us with tripods!

Safety Improvements for Motorcyclists and Lorry and Bus Drivers
Measures to boost safety for motorcyclists and lorry and bus drivers have been put forward in Parliament.
The measures - which also strengthen requirements for driving examiners and impact on the rules for drivers towing trailers - will come in to force on 19 January 2013 as part of new European requirements aimed at improving road safety.
The changes are being implemented by the Department for Transport in conjunction with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
DSA chief executive, Rosemary Thew, said:
“Britain already has some of the safest roads in the world. These changes build on our existing standards and recognise the importance of our examiners’ professionalism. They will also help to ensure that new motorcyclists gain the right skills and experience before riding bigger bikes.”
DVLA chief executive, Simon Tse, said:
“These changes will provide a useful additional reminder for bus and lorry drivers. They will help to ensure that drivers of these vehicles will continue to operate to high levels of levels of safety by ensuring that they are fit to drive.”
The European requirements are being introduced in Great Britain in line with feedback from a public consultation, which included responses from driver and rider training bodies, trade associations and road safety groups.
Full details about the changes can be found at
