local schools St Columba Church Toddler and Playgroup
There is a lot going on at Playgroup this term! We have a great selection of resources including the trains, dress-up and ever popular painting so always something to do. The first part of our session is devoted to free play so the children can choose from a wide variety of activities thereby developing independence and self-expression. Then we offer a snack within a half- hour period, always something healthy and filling. The s ec ond part of the morning is generally adult - led with gym or a trip to the library or a large group game. Come in any time for a visit and see what’s happening. The summer term will be busy with lots of visitors and special activities which we look forward to.
For information regarding our playgroup call our membership secretary Katriona 01505 873072. We welcome children from Kilmacolm and all the surrounding villages. If you want to find out about the Toddler group then call Tracey on 07742 229 489. You can also find us on Facebook to keep up to date with everything that’s going on.
AT LAST…AT LAST…AT LAST
Beanstalks Out of School & Holiday Club Beanstalks Out of School and Holiday Club has at last been given the go ahead to start the Out of School and Holiday Club for Langbank village.
It has been one serious long haul and the staff now feel qualified to join the circus - they have done so many somersaults over the last year!
However, we are here now and welcome children to the service. Breakfast club is held in the school from 8am to 9am and the afternoon club is held in the Village Hall from 3pm to 6pm (except Fridays when we have a 5pm stopping time). We will provide a wide range of activities for the children with the emphasis on outdoor play. Children from schools outwith the village, but who reside in Langbank, are welcome to join our club.
We look forward to welcoming those children already registered with us and if others
are interested, please get in touch. Our email address is
beanstalksoos@yahoo.co.uk
The next outing for the cubs will be the annual bike ride which will take place around the Isle of Cumbrae. In connection with the Jubilee weekend celebrations, the scouts have applied to light a beacon on Bogston Hill on the 4th June with the Group Activity Weekend taking place over the 8th, 9th and 10th June.
Howwood Playgroup
We welcome children from the age of 2 until school age. We have two play leaders, Fiona and Karen, who engage the children in a variety of activities. Joining the playgroup will make the transition to nursery/school easier for both parent and child. We have been established nearly 40 years, based in Howwood Parish Church and welcome children from all the surrounding areas. For more information please contact Fiona 01505 704819 or Karen 01505 705643.

The floor of the Scout Hall has now been replaced with a superior hard wood surface and this will give users of the hall a much improved environment.
Further to the joint Kilbarchan/ Houston ceilidh which took place at Brookfield Village Hall on the 21st April, a sponsored walk will take place on the 19th May in support of the scouts visit to the Berenese Oberland in Switzerland in July.
The cubs have also been busy last month and all attended (including a larger than normal number of inquisitive parents!) the much anticipated visit to the British Airways Maintenance Hangar at Glasgow Airport.
The cubs, leaders and parents would like to extend a very big thank you to all the British Airways Maintenance Team who gave up their own time to give a very informal video and tour of the facility which included all the cubs getting the chance to inspect the engines, undercarriage, wings and tail of the Boeing 737 and Airbus A319 present in the hangar. The children also got the chance to sit in the cockpit, give the safety talk over the tannoy and tour the inside of the cabin (minus seats) to see things you would not normally see on a regular flight. I am sure there will now be lots more budding engineers and pilots after this visit!
