Fiona to Raise Funds for Project Trust

In October 2011 local girl Fiona Mallinson was selected as a volunteer with charitable organisation Project Trust. She will be leaving in August of this year to embark on a year overseas in Africa, volunteering as either an English teacher or an orphanage worker.

In the summer of this year she will once again head out to the remote Isle of Coll, where Project trust is based, for her training week just as she did for the selection process in October. For this opportunity she needs to fundraise £5,100. She has already raised over £1,000 thanks to previous fundraising and contributions from the Rotary Club of Gryffe Valley who were generous enough to give her a cheque for £300. Despite this she still needs help to reach her final target. She will be holding a car wash every Sunday from 12pm-5pm at her home address.

She also has a Facebook page for her homemade cupcakes that she sells to aid her fundraising. Search “Fiona’s Fabulous Cupcakes” on Facebook. These can be made to order for birthday parties, special occasions or just a sweet treat. She also sells these at various local car boot sales, such as Bridge of Weir and also at her dad and brother’s rugby club tournaments in Greenock. Fiona hopes that you will be able to join her at one of these events in the future.

Project Trust provides unique experiences for 16-18 year olds. If you are interested in finding out more about the work Project Trust does or how to apply for a selection course please visit www.projecttrust.org.uk

If you wish to contact Fiona for more information about any of her upcoming fundraising events please e-mail: f.mallinson@btinternet.com

SSAFA Forces Help

Many of us in Renfrewshire know of a veteran Soldier, Sailor or Airman, but there are probably many more we rarely see who are lonely or in need of help. The Renfrewshire & Inverclyde Branch of SSAFA (also known as the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) Forces Help exists to help veterans of all ages who fall on difficult times.

Military people are rightly very proud but that often means that they are unwilling to come forward and accept the help they deserve even though they may be suffering terrible hardships. If anyone is aware of someone in Renfrewshire who they think may be struggling with physical, mental or financial problems do please suggest SSAFA Forces Help to them. Issues do not have to be the direct result of active service. We offer a range of services to anyone who has served in the Armed Forces and their dependants including widows and those who have done National Service.

The Renfrewshire & Inverclyde Branch of SSAFA Forces Help can be contacted at The Wynd Centre, 6 School Wynd, Paisley PA1 2DB (0141 840 4060).
