A few constituents have contacted me in relation to my last column and the additional £40million which is to be diverted towards boosting digital infrastructure in rural areas to support faster internet access.
The Scottish Government and local government has arrived at a financial package that will ensure that broadband can be rolled out to areas that may not have been reached on a purely commercial basis. This arrangement will clearly benefit rural areas, and be delivered by an appropriate procurement exercise. At this stage it is a ‘high-level’ agreement and I therefore cannot supply the plans for roll-out. The ambition is to ensure that all areas have a high quality connection and provision as soon as is reasonably practical. I will make further enquiries about phased roll out, and ensure that all parts of my constituency benefit.
For those of my constituents interested in cooking, Kilmacolm Community Centre will be the venue for “Cook Live!” from 10am to 4pm on May 5th. The event features products for the home and kitchen along with live cookery demonstrations from well known, local chefs, including Jason Andrews from the River Inn, Matthew Scobie from Windyhill and Shafiq & Tabby from Shimla Cottage.
Most of you will have received my Annual Report for 2011/2012 by this time, which I hope you will enjoy reading. This is the first report of its kind from me, after having been elected in May 2011 to represent the Renfrewshire North and West constituency as a member of the Scottish Parliament. As the report highlights, I receive high numbers of correspondence every week and my office team help me represent your views and get answers to the questions you ask. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there is anything you would like to raise with me.
The Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme has recently awarded funding to Bishopton Rugby Football Club. The award of £1530 will help purchase equipment used to support their good work such as first aid kits, water bottle sets, cones, balls, Salmon Poles, tackle bags, bibs and tackle tyres. It’s great to see so many groups coming forward with the aim of making a big difference to their local communities and these grants show the variety of projects that can be funded. I would encourage other groups who think that they fit the criteria to apply also.

Collection thanks
A huge thank you to the Piazza Shopping Centre in Paisley for letting St Vincent’s Hospice carry out a bucket collection on Saturday 24th March, it was a great day and thanks to the generosity of the shoppers we raised a fantastic £240.56! A special thanks to all of our supporters who very kindly gave up time on their Saturday to come along and help with the collection. Without your continued support events like this would not be possible, so thank you from everyone at St Vincent’s Hospice.
