ROSS SMOKED SALMON PÂTÉ Scotland’s oldest commercial producer of traditional Scottish smoked salmon, John Ross Jr (Aberdeen) Ltd, has partnered with Sainsbury’s in Scotland to supply the Scottish store network with its award-winning Smoked Salmon Pâté. It is the first time that the product has been made available nationally since receiving Gold at the Guild of Fine Food Awards. The Awards saw over 350 judges blind- taste more than 6,000 products before presenting successful producers with one of the food industry’s highest accolades. According to John Ross Jr, the pâté has been made with the finest Grade A salmon smoked in traditional red brick kilns dating back to 1857. The 115g tubs retail for £2.15 and as well as being supplied to retail units, are used in restaurants and hotels in the UK.

ROMINO RANGE Italian wine co-operative Caviro has launched its premium wine range, Romio, into Morrisons stores across the UK. The two variants, Romio Chardonnay Grillo Sicilia IGT and the Sangiovese di Romagna DOC Superiore are, according to the co-operative, classic Italian varietals that offer consumers a quality, approachable wine at a competitive price point. The Sangiovese di Romagna DOC Superiore variety was recognised with a ‘Silver Best in Class’ at the International Wine and Spirit Competition, 2011, whilst the Chardonnay Grillo Sicilia IGT is fresh and dry with flavours of ripe peaches and a gentle buttery undertone. The wines have a RRP of £6.49.
JUNA ARRIVES IN THE UK Euro-Colombian start-up company, JUNA, have announced its arrival in the UK with the launch of its first all-natural nectar fruit drink range. The four drinks, which come in Lulo, Guanábana and Mora flavours, as well as Mango, are, says the company, 100 per cent natural and do not contain any artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. JUNA drinks are already listed at selected independent eateries and food stores in Brighton and London, but this is the company’s official launch into food retail. Through its drinks, JUNA seeks to make a positive impact on the communities growing the fruits for its products, opening new markets for small farmers and their families in Colombia. Therefore, 5p per bottle sold will go towards the JUNA Project, designed to strengthen fruit grower associations in remote areas of the country. JUNA drinks are available in 250ml recyclable PET bottles with biodegradable labels from Selfridges stores. RRP from £2.10.
INTERSNACK’S PRAWN COCKTAIL POM-BEAR Savory snack producer, Intersnack, has updated its bestselling Pom-Bear range of teddy- shaped snacks with two new flavours: Prawn Cocktail and Smoky Bacon. According to the manufacturer, the additions mean that the core Pom-Bear range now reflects the UK’s ‘top five favourite flavours’ for bagged snacks which are Cheese & Onion, Ready Salted, Salt & Vinegar, Prawn Cocktail and Smoky Bacon. Pom-Bear is the snack for kids that ‘melts-in the mouth.’ It is made from potato and says the company, contains no artificial additives, colours, flavours or preservatives, making it a firm favourite with mums too. Pom-Bear is also gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians. Intersnack say it is one of the UK’s top five x6 multipack snacks with sales in the last 12 weeks up 14 per cent, outperforming the market. The company plans to develop the brand throughout 2012, with investment both in new product development and marketing support. The new Pom-Bear flavours will be listed in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
